Avoiding The Physical Side Effects of Diphenhydramine HCl

Do any SWIMmers out there know of any way to reduce the unwanted physical effects of Diphenhydramine high doses?

Some effects SWIM would rather not have to deal with:

  • Diuretic action - SWIM is always peeing on Diphen, this problem is exacerbated by the fact that more often than not SWIM can't actually walk while under the influence
  • "Buzzing" - That ol' dirty feeling this drug gives SWIM. Whole body appears to "buzz" and burn.
  • Extreme motor function impairment - reaching for door handles, opening draws etc can become nigh on impossible.
SWIM is aware that any attempts to change the Diphenhydramine experience are probably futile, but in this world where there appears to be a chemical for every cause, he wondered if anybody had any tips for improving the nature of the experience.

Cheers,
DG.

Re: Avoiding The Physical Side Effects of Diphenhydramine HCl

A person just dosed 300mg an hour ago. He finds that smoking marijuana relaxes the body burning and itchiness, the THC almost turns it into a warm comfortable glow, which intensifies while sitting still. As for the peeing, a person always found himself getting up randomly to walk to the bathroom to find he doesn't have to do anything, and walks back into his room while on Diph. He finds that he does it just to get up and do something, which keeps him from dosing off. As for your motor functions, Diphenhydramine is a good drug for motion sickness, it will alter your depth perception and sense of balance no matter what you try to take to counter-act it.

A persons best advice is to learn to just coop with those effects, but he believes that marijuana greatly increases the comfort and enjoyment of diphenhydramine.

Re: Avoiding The Physical Side Effects of Diphenhydramine HCl

Swim finds it's helpful to plot out everything he needs to do for the next six hours before dosing. He's a cigarette smoker and can't recommend it to anyone for health reasons, but would like to note that it really helps give him something to do. He sips soda and frequently crosses and uncrosses legs. He also makes sure to keep himself focused or fascinated, with music, movies, or something like wikipedia that a person can completely absorb themself in for an hour, following links upon links and ending up reading about topics that had nothing to do with where he started. He likes reading trip reports for all sorts of drugs, too.

Swim initially suffered terrible restless leg syndrome when he started with dph. His solution was a firm uncushioned wooden chair with a hard back. He heartily agrees that THC (and some munchies) helps with discomfort and staying in one place. He's not sure anyone can help with the door handle or walking problems... take it slow and focus on actions. It can help if the lights are turned on or up, at least temporarily, when the goal is house navigation.

Hate to say it, but these side effects are your body's way of saying "cut this shit out". The fact is these drugs are toxic in these doses and causing problems with your body's systems.

The fact is it's these effects that turn a lot of people off from these drugs, you can't take them and expect not to feel like crap.

Probably best just to find something different to do.

Re: Avoiding The Physical Side Effects of Diphenhydramine HCl

A person finds that it's not just 'Take diphenhydramine and feel like crap' He sees it as just like any other drug. However, the effects of diph at doses above 300mg, the high is very dirty feeling, and almost like something is missing. The entire thought process is severely impaired and a person would hardly do any 'thinking' during the trip. Sense of time and memory are severely altered, and he has woke up in the morning after a trip, sadly, not remembering much, and never recalling most of the 'trip', which in retrospective never seems productive.

However, he has found diph useful at smaller doses (100-150mg) to do great things during the daytime, when smoking pot. It seems like the diph stimulates the marijuana high a bit and is very calm and relaxing. Also, if one is taking DXM, diph is also useful at doses under 100mg aprox a half hour before dosing, as it will take away much, if not all of the nausea that usually persists with DXM usage.

A persons bottom line. Diph is a strange drug indeed, but it is still a drug, and like any drug it does alter your state of mind. It is not good nor bad, but simply a drug that some may enjoy, and some may not enjoy. Personally, a person finds diph useful for such things mentioned in this post.

Also, darkglobe, it seems like much of those 'side effects' he posted are some of the actual effects themselves. That is why many feel like the high is 'dirty' or 'incomplete', or a let down. If those are effects he doesn't want in his high, diph is not his drug.
