Bad Trip Ending Good

SWIM had a bad trip his first time taking magic mushrooms. SWIM has narrowed the reasons for his bad trip. First off, his doggy told him he would die if he fell asleep. SWIM was very very tired for some reason, though he was told this was strange at that many people had trouble sleeping with magic mushrooms. SWIM wanted to sleep all night and nearly did a few times. Second SWIM had another puppy over also on magic mushrooms who was very loud and obnoxious. It made everything much scarier with the background track of his puppy yelling. The whole night SWIM thought if he slept he would die but he was sure he could not keep himself awake much longer. This is where the good trip came in. SWIM was so sure he could not hold off sleep that he came to terms with it. SWIM decided it would be a good way to go out, in his sleep... After this realization SWIM felt much better and as he tried to fall asleep found out he could not. He steadily awoke to his puppy playing guitar. It made it all better.

Re: Bad Trip ending good.

Ah, hand ringing, when one believes nothing can be done then why struggle ? But believing something can always be done has made swim feel better in the past. During a bad trip it helps to remember that these beliefs, feelings & worries are due to the effects of the substance + external factors. Knowing it will pass, changing the setting & learning from experience made swim feel a lot better.

Re: Bad Trip ending good.

Simply put, whoever told you that you could die if you fell asleep on shrooms is an asshole. Chances are you would have had a great time otherwise but naturally, you dwelled on this misinformation. Shrooms don't make you sleepy as such but they do produce a dream-like state that often results in a lot of yawning. Of all the terrible myths I've heard about psychedelics, I think that one takes the #1 prize for most sinister.

Re: Bad Trip ending good.

Swiv agrees with Nature Boy, that emotional blackmail the pup used on you was just horrendously mean. It's might be wise to not trip with obnoxious or needy puppies in the future. Glad the trip went better after a while though!

Mindset and setting are of the utmost importance while tripping. They lay the groundwork for the trip and can allow for good or bad imprints, depending on who, where and when one trips. Some bad trips can lead to bad imprints that may take a lot of work and time to overcome and can be emotionally and psychically taxing, if not damaging. Trip responsibly, and it can be rewarding in so many ways. Just a bit of forethought and planning can pay off immensely. Best of luck for future trips!

Re: Bad Trip ending good.

Thank you, SWIM seems to be quite pleased with this trip. Though it was quite horrible in its worst part SWIM feels as though it helped him to over come future trips and future obstacles and to even appreciate life as whole much more. =)

Re: Bad Trip ending good.

Do realize, you can go through ego death under the influence of teonanacatl , and while the symptoms can be frightening, it's really quite worth it.

Your ego is your sense of self, your seperateness from things that are not you, in many ways a case that keeps your mind in your head, and not else where. Mushrooms have the ability to break that bottle and let your mind absorb the entirety of reality (to varying degrees). Everything is interconnected, and once free of ego the oppertunities for exploration are limitless. From the dead outer spheres of the universe, planes where plant consciousness dwell, abodes of ancient gods, to the inner recesses of your own mind, or even mass expansion of your mind into everything around you, becoming one with everything. Little taste of the Bardos. There are places where you can do strange things, many where you can access the workings of your mind, sometimes you can change things. Meta-programming the human bio-computer can let you shake off addictions, make drastic changes to your lifestyle, bring you needed motivation, even change the way you see the world as a whole. There will be a reading list on this at the end of this post.

Thing is, your ego, likes it self, that is kind of what it is by definition. It doesn't like what mushrooms do to it, and it can raise hell. You begin to think you're going to die. Things get scarry, your heart begins to race, your breath quickens, the immenant doom grows and GROWS! The thing is, mushrooms don't kill you, you'll be fine, you're just about to be reborn and that can hurt, it's ok, sometimes pain is good. You NEED to LET GO! You need to die and know you'll be fine, in a few hours of real time, you'll be back in your body and hopefully a better person for it, and you make peace with the situation, and you get to go on.

This is why, when someone freaks out on mushrooms, telling them "nothing is going to happen to them, they'll be fine." isn't always the best response. Cause the first time you go through this experience it's not generally pleasant, but they need to dive into it head first.

There's many types of death, some you return to the earthly after, some you don't, but they all seem to feel the same. If you go into the heavy tripp saying "these are gonna kill me, but that's cool cause I'll be reborn." it'll make things easier. Trust the Doktor on this one.

Of course when you "get there", you'll need to orient your self. Breathing exercises, prayer, ritual, Spectacles Testicles Wallet and Watch, you'll want to learn some way of bringing your mind and body under control. The psychedelic landscapes are confusing and overwhelming at first, but you can adjust to them.

Then ya do things you can't do here.

Eventually you come home, this presents the most challenging obstacle of the tripp, dimensional smuggling. You've learned something new and you want to make sure you can remember it tomorrow. Psychedelic memories are slippery at best, by next dawn the experiences are already verging on the edge of being indescribable. You can try recording devices, pen and paper, cameras, audio, they will sometimes be of help, having sober friends to do the job is a possibility here too. Sometimes you can just fold the memory up and put it somewhere safe, better yet don't fold it.

So just die already.

Robert Anton Wilson, The Illuminati Papers, followed up by Best of Trajectories, The New Inquisition which isn't so much a manual but a program in it self, it uploads as it is read, make sure to do the exorcises as you go. Prometheus Rising is well worth the read too.

Yogi Ramacharaka, Science of Breath. How to breath, how to breath when your sleeping, or eating, or working, how to breath in the morning and in the evening, or when your sick. Breathing is one of the easiest techniques to center yourself.

Alfred Korzbyski, General Semantics

Alister Crowley Book Four Especially the chapters on ego dissolution, it's an odd set of techniques, three of the four require total devotion and more likely then not, a long period of hermitage. The Banishing rituals are also well advised.

Dale Pendell, Pharmako/ trilogy. Goes with out saying, why don't you own a set of these already?

If you want to try a challenging program, Bucky Fuller's Synergetics I&II, will teach you the geometry of the mind and the universe (not that there's any difference). It's not an easy read, but it's not an easy subject. Well worth reading.

And any book mentioned in the books above.

Hope you guys find this useful.
