Are people drug tested during physicals?
do doctors take urine samples for drug testing during a physical? i've never had to do it but a friend of mine said they do every time. it seems to me that this would violate some sort of right and they would really have no reason to do it. so basically i'm asking if anyone has heard of or experienced first hand a drug test for the sole purpose of getting a physical.

No, i got nervous about this one time when my mom told me that she was going to have the dr draw blood from me and test it. Little did i know that the dr. was only drawing blood to check the white blood cell, red blood cell count, and to make sure that i was healthy. This is also why they give you a urine screen. They would have to tell you that you were going to get a drug screen before they could test you. So in short no they are not testing for drugs, just to see that your healthy. This was confirmed by both the Dr. and Swims mom who is a Dr.

My friends doctor gives you the option of this.. He went in for a
physical and I beleive during the physical the doctor asked his mom if
she would like a drug test to be done, she said yes. Luckily my
friend passed..

Hmmmm....I've never heard of anyone being tested during a
physical. The point of a physical is to ensure that you are
overall healthy, not to check for drugs. I have had many
physicals, and never was I asked (or a parent asked when I was younger)
if a drug screen should be done.

I'm actually kind of worried about that too. I have to go for a physical soon at my family doctor.
I didn't know it was even legal for the doctor to do a drug test without consent from the person it's being given to though.  Can a parent or guardian really request that?! I guess it must also depend on where you live.

I'm going for a physical tomarrow. I truly hope Muirner is right! I think he is though, it makes sense.
edit: woot, just got done with it. It isn't a drug test at all.

i think there is some kinda of law about confidentiality that says doctors wont drug test you or tell your parents if you say you do or have done drugs
