So, SWIM has been taking Citalopram for about a month now, and is wondering how long will it take to fully exit SWIM's system?

Re: How long will it take for Citalopram (Celexa) to leave SWIM's body?
It depends on whether SWIY will taper off in doses, or just discontinue immediately.
I'm not sure of the exact time frame for citalopram, but for pretty much every SSRI, it can take up to a week after completely ceasing medication for the effects to go away. |

Re: How long will it take for Citalopram (Celexa) to leave SWIM's body?
SSRIs (well, mostly all antidepressants) have a "washout period", and they each take variable amounts of time to leave the system completely. There is a great chart about each antidepressant that can be found here .
The first box on each type tells you how long it takes to "washout". All SSRIs (including, citalopram, escitalopram, sertraline, etc) are just under the SSRI box. Hope this helps! Last edited by Venusia; 18-06-2009 at 21:07. Reason: typo |

Five half-lives from the last dose. If the half-life of citalopram is 24 hours, it'll take 5 days after your final dose for your citalopram level to be negligible.
