Bad pods? Aybody else ever experience this?
Swim made a tea with 130 grams pod powder (5 doses for swim) the other day and experienced some very unpleasant results.
First, the symptoms, then I will tell you how swim made the tea.
When he drank a dose, within about 30 minutes his thighs, buttocks and lower back would hurt like hell. Like HELL he says! It was similar to the feeling he gets in those areas when he is in WD's, but about 100 times worse!
Could not sit still, kept massaging the areas, but they ached like crazy. After about thirty minutes, the pain would go away and he would be high as a kite.... nodding like crazy. Noticed some shortness of breath, but not enough to scare him.
TEK:
Swim does not wash or wipe his pods. The latest batch of pods, although said to be Grade A, looked more like Grade B and he threw more than usual out because they were too ugly on the inside. You know..... the stuff that makes you wonder if it's mold or a result of really bruised pods. Swim is particular, so he tosses those.
He uses an aluminum double boiler (could this be a clue?) and brews his tea at 65 to 80 degrees celsius for three hours the first go around. Usually at ph 5.5 to 6.0 using citric acid to adjust. He presses thoroughly with his bodum, then does a second extraction after holding the temp for only 1 to 2 hours with distilled water and no citric acid.
This time, however, due to a thread he read here, he used a very healthy squirt of freshly squeezed grapefruit juice instead of citric acid and didn't measure the ph.
He pressed the first wash thoroughly with a bodum (Swim weighs 175 pounds and actually sits on the plunger of his bodum to extract the maximum amount of liquid from each pressing), put it back in the double boiler with fresh distilled water (no GFJ) , brought the temp to 75 celsius, turned off the heat and let it sit overnight before pressing again at room temperature with the bodum and tossing the pulp down the garbage disposal.
Swim then used the ice-o-lation TEK to reduce the volume and this was the tea swim drank. Swim does not dislike the taste of his tea.
He has one dose left, but is too afraid to drink it. Therefore, he is making another 130 gram batch the old way as he types this.
Swim has always used the same double boiler and this was the first batch of tea that had less than pleasant results.
Any swiy's ever had these symptoms from tea?
