Worries about worki'n out!

So swim injects the majority of days, 3-8 times a day.
His arm veins aren't completely destroyed, but many are weak.

Swim wants to do some weights like he used to, but remembering how much pressure this would put on his veins, he is pretty scared that his weakened veins will just explode under the pressure.

Any swims have experience of this? Is swim ok to 'push for the burn'?

Re: Worries about worki'n out!

Normally weight lifting strengthens veins but when the are weakened by injecting not really sure. A friend of mine goes weightlifting all the time and he injects and doesn't have any problems

Re: Worries about worki'n out!

SWIM weightlifted like 2-4 times a week for the most part the past 4 years (when he wasn't withdrawing) and found that it would help with vein regeneration. SWIM had zero wrist veins for the past year or so, and weight lifted heavily the 2.5 months he was in rehab a little while ago. None of his wrist veins came back really, but he found one the other day which excited him.

Weightlifting and heroin go together well SWIM thinks.

Re: Worries about worki'n out!

Swims not sure about weakened veins, though shes been told that working out will bring veins up to the surface & pump them up bigger.

As swim said in another post recently - anyone seen Madonnas veins since she got into keep fit?
She has the biggest veins that swim has ever seen on a woman (or many men come to think about it).
Maybe swiy could find out by googling it?Worth a try maybe.

Re: Worries about worki'n out!

Working out definitely strengthens veins, but best to take it slowly if they're weak - build up very gradually and it should be a good thing.

Swim agrees go easy not just for swiys veins but if swim hasn't worked out in awhile it can really hurt the body going to hard to fast. Just go easy and slowly build up and swiy should have no problems and will see improvement.

Re: Worries about worki'n out!

my friend Swim's experience with a similar situation indicated to him that lifting weights is one of the best things possible one can do for his vascular system, particularly in the arms. If your friend's veins are that totally shot then he should switch to something oral for just a few days, he'll be amazed how fast those things heal, and then he can lift away. Also, if he is really that strung-out, then he should probably take those couple days off to eat some food and drink some water. My friend swim certaintly doesn't eat or drink enough when he is strung-out, and dehydration and malnutrition negatively effect the quality, diameter, and healing rate of veins.

Re: Worries about worki'n out!

Well at the point of complete vein loss addiction levels are probably so high no oral substitute would be at all usefull. Swim would need to spend tremendous amounts of money if he were to use O.C. and even then orally ... out of the question... Although swim thinks maybe swiy mean methadone or suboxin which may be an option...

SWIM meant methadone, but really, whatever is the cheapest effective way to hold SWIY over. Hell, SWIY could even just muscle it for a bit, just enough to get his veins back up and running smoothly.
