Re: Doctor Question??
One can always ask. Doesn't mean one will receive.
A doctor is obligated by professional duty to keep a patient's health information private. This confidentiality extends to medical records such as, lab tests and x-rays, any test results, and anything one says to one's doctor.
BUT in spite of the ethical and legal obligations, access to confidential patient information is becoming more prevalent. Electronic health information systems mean health data is more accessible and easily disseminated. In other words, one's health records goes through a lot of different people's hands in the electronic age -- those people are, in the US, required to adhere to certain specific confidentiality standards.
How one's doctor interprets such a request, maybe even questioning one's tolerance and possible dependence -- is difficult to speculate.
Ask one's self what one risks by asking. What does one fear will happen from the request? Then weigh the odds.
