Amphetamines anti-depressant effects

Are there any meds out there that give the same euphoric anti-depressant/motivational effect as amphetamine , but does not have the addiction potential and the side-effect profile? So far the only I have been able to find is bupropion, amineptine, and maybe mirapex. I have heard some of the MAOIs like Parnate have similar effects too. I myself have atypical depression with severe anhedonia but I don't want to go the route of amphetamines.

I would suggest you rethink your definition of "addiction"; thereby learning the science that contributes to dependence. Those who take SSRIs are not immune from addiction, you can read reports of people having to up their SSRI dosage to maintain effects.

Re: Amphetamines anti-depressant effects

SWIM would have to agree, she has been the SSRI route, and Zoloft/Sertraline in particular was one she had to up and up and up, until eventually she was not feeling ANYTHING. SWIM thought not feeling anything at all at first was terrific, then realized feeling nothing literally meant NOTHING. No desire to be around people, eat, sleep, have sex.
Addictions to pills are just as bad as addictions to street/illegal drugs, IHO. To her, to a certain extent, it was worse, there is more personal justification when getting that legal script. Once the pharmacy knew her by name, she knew the legal meds were an addiction!
She decided to stop all medical treatment for her mental issues and is glad she did. She suggests much caution, as she went along w/everything her docs said, check out previous posts to see how much crap she was on at one point, it was insane!
Doctors can be the worst kind of drug dealers there are!

Re: Amphetamines anti-depressant effects

I beg to disagree... there are more success stories with SSRIs than horror. Its all personal... SWIM, personally, does not mind stopping in his pharmacy two times a month; and would not mind having to do so for the rest of his life.

Re: Amphetamines anti-depressant effects

Goes to show, everyone is different. SWIM was all for trying it out, did it for a year, hated it and is happy she is no longer on them.
Body chemistry is a crazy thing, as it's different for everyone!

Re: Amphetamines anti-depressant effects

Ughh SWIM cannot stand the way SSRIs make him feel (opinion.) Swim has recently started bupropion (Wellbutrin) and it is really starting to make him a lot more positive like nothing is really wrong in the world (amphetamine did this for him too) and has indeed increased his motivation far more then any SSRI. Obviously bupropion does not get you high or what not, but SWIM has found it to be great so far for his atypical depression (which he kind of used amphetamine to medicate himself with.)
