Drying amanitas on sun?
Hello there!
I used to dry casual eadible mushrooms by putting them on a net or sieve, which I placed on the sun and left the heat and air do the work... My question is: can swim do the same with amanitas? Will they dry properly, or is it just not warm enough? Will the dangerous toxin turn into muscimol, or will swim damage his liver? Thanks for future answers! |

Re: Drying amanitas on sun?
Yes, sun will dry them perfectly. They are to be dried just like the plain edible mushrooms swiy dried in the past. And this procedure is enough for their preparation to be complete.

Thanks for your reply Sushi
I heard that Psilocybes will lose their psychoactive effects on sun. Will the same happen with Amanitas? And can swim eat them now when they're dryed, or should he cook them first? |

AW: Drying amanitas on sun?
Amanitas contain muscimole, not psilocine/psilocybine. The chemical structure is very different. So if psilocybine shrooms are preapred with heat, the active components getting destryoed.
But for example Amanita muscaria (fly garic) contains muscimol and ibootenic acid. The ibotenic acid is a pre form of muscimol, often its said that high ibotenic acid levels lead to sickness. But if a little heat is added, the levels of ibotenic acid drop down and the muscimol levels raise. So drying them in the sun or with 50°C in an oven is adviced. After they are dried, SWIY can eat them directly, the hats contain most active components, so if SWIY don´t like the taste he can also only eat the hats. Cooking the mushrooms is adviced to kill eggs of Echinococcus multilocularis a cyclophyllid cestode. |
