Health - mouldy pods

Swim has a new batch of Gig's that appear to be mouldy. The outer surface of most pods are covered in many large and small black blotches - giving it an acne like appearance. However, the inside of the pods are fine, possibly the cleanest looking pods he's seen from the inside. Does this sound like mould? He's heard mould smells and is usually on the inside of the pods as well as the outside, and swim's pods smell fine. If its mould, would it be worth the risk ? Any swiy know any swiy that tried this gig batch from certain british vendor?

Swim should also add, that some pods are literally pitch black in appearance.

Swim's heard mould can be scraped off, whereas this can't. This leads him to the conclusion that it's more likely bruising of the skin, or something other than mould.
