Tales of Wonder

This is an excellent autobiography of the eminent religions scholar Huston Smith. It is rather short, considering the man approaches 90 year and has traveled to many countries around the world. I'm sure there are many fascinating stories he left out.

Huston Smith explored psychedelic (or entheogens as he refers to them) with the likes of Tim Leary and Alduous Huxley, as well as Indigenous peoples. Sadly, there is a lot of information on his experiences with these in the book. He does recount his first LSD trip and states that he believes psychedelics are capable of producing legitimate mystical/religious experiences.

An enjoyable read if you are interested in the man's life and religions, but you may not get much out of it if you are looking to find out about his drug experiences.

7.5/10

Re: Tales of Wonder

Huston Smith was an interesting writer on comparative religions. Being very 'mainstream' he probably would not write much about psychedelics.
