Effects - Different method of opium tea.

SWIM has made the mistake of boiling the water to make opium tea (which destroys some of the opium).

SWIM read that each chemical in opium has a different dissolving temperature in water. So SWIM is going to try 3 different extractions:

1. Cold water for 30 minutes
2. Very hot water for 20 minutes
3. Boiling water for 20 minutes

Can anyone back up SWIM on this?

Yes, the most important alkaloids are obviously Morphine and Codeine. Since Codeine has a ceiling effect Morphine is the more desirable of the two obviously. Morphine is destroyed by vaporization at 82.6 degrees Celsius.

This is correct. However the most important alkaloids are . . . the most important to preserve when making the tea. Therefor the tea should never go above 82.6 degrees Celsius for the above stated reason.

This will get a lot of the alkaloids, especially if the pods are powdered first and the solution is kept agitated in something like a blender or mixer. If one does not have those things then agitating by hand is acceptable.

This will work the best as long as the liquid temperature never exceeds the above stated limit. Keeping the water at around 70 to 75 degrees Celsius for an hour or so is even better.

This will be the worst, some opiates will survive but the potency will be GREATLY AND SIGNIFICANTLY reduced.

Hmm intresting. SWIM will try cold water tea next time.

Also is it nessary to make another batch with hot water (not boiling).?

The hot water batch will (should) be better than the cold water batch. If one wants to and then report back then one can scientifically confirm or refute this theory.
