Drug info - What is this "shrimp" stuff?

Does SWIY know what the proper name is for this new "shrimp" stuff? SWIM acquired some at a festival, had an awesome time, but wishes to read more about what SWIM is putting into SWIM's body.

SWIM said it felt like MDMA in a way but lasted way longer.

An erowid.org search for "shrimp" did not return any useful results.

It did turn up a bunch of funny trip reports. Apparently a lot of people hallucinate shrimp when on various drugs. Interesting, but it's unclear what drug this could be...

Mephedrone has been referred to as "shrimp" I believe in some news articles.

But lasting far longer than MDMA? Definitely not mephedrone in that case...

This drug has quite the body load. It feels as if the material is just sitting in my stomach. I take a short ride to my dealer's house, to see if I can acquire any more "shrimp". This stuff is highly addictive. I arrive at his house. On the table is an ice chest, filled with the "shrimp." Apparently it must be stored carefully. I pay him for more "shrimp" and he pulls out a container of some white liquid.

"You think shrimp is good? You don't know what you're missing."

"What is it?" I ask.

"Tartar sauce. Shrimp is good, but with this stuff, its unbelievable."

I was intrigued. I agreed to try it. As I popped both the shrimp and tartar sauce into my mouth I experienced the greatest ecstasy of my life.

Careful, taking too much "shrimp" may result in lethargy, bloating, vomiting and huge dumps.

this is not a single substance. you have ingested a combination of things like unreliable street drugs. that swedish girl or whomever that supposedly "died" of mephedrone is an example of someone that died from that seafood/shrimp stuff... it might have meph in it, but it's definitely not the culprit of her death.... especially considering u said it lasted so long...

I'm assuming this is just speculation, or can you provide real evidence that this is the case?

the real evidence is that there has been no reported death of mephedrone (until that sweden case which holds no ground), and people go on 1-gram, 2-gram, 3-gram binges just fine.... that swedish person took waaayyy less..

it's only plausible that there is something else in there, and mephedrone does not smell like shrimp anywhere else in the world. the media can really drill a lot of inaccurate false-truths into ppl's minds and that's what happened in sweden.

It was called shrimp "räkan" (the shrimp) first. Then Krabban (the crab).. I believe it was called Räkan because your dick looks like a shrimp when youre on it.

So I will assume that its called shrimp in the states for the same reason...

My niece is in the hospital after ingesting this drug called shrimp on Halloween. 2weeks later and she is still having hallucinations. What is this stuff? What is it made of? We ate desperate for any infrmation. Has anyone else experienced a bad trip like this?

^^ well, unfortunately a "Street name" for a drug tells us nothing. It may or may not be "mephedrone" the substance mentioned here.

But really- with all there is to go on being the word "shrimp" it could be any substance- or combination there of.


The effects swiy mention don't really sound like mephedrone. Are the "continuing hallucinations" considered by the doctors to be a psychotic break of sorts or drug induced? Is there any family history of underlying mental illness or neurological disorders?

That is another sad part to this. Either the dr's dont know what caused this or they just aren't telling us because she is now an adult. She is in a mental hospital, she's extrdmly paranoidand and still thinks she is the messiah. She is here to save the world etc etc. With this being totally out of her character and never having any other mental episodes we are convinced that it is a drug induced condition. whatever happened It happened overnite. After some reseaerch by talking to friends and looking into her myspace we are convinced that it is linked to this "shrimp". We are trying to find out what chemicals this is made of,long term effects if any and whether or not anyone else has experienced a bad trip like this.

^^^ Sad to hear this. The turtles aardvark has witnessed a fair number of "reality breaks" caused, in part, by drugs. He has become very good at seeing the underlying issues that pre-dispose ones to these conditions...

For what its worth, the worse cases he has witnessed have been from accidental massive overdoses, and often, when the person did not realize they were taking any substance. The aardvark, in his considerable experience, has never heard of a case of this happening without underlying issues (understand that these may never have been diagnosed, or shown in any way that would necessarily ring alarm bells)

Usually the "break" is not permanent- at least not the most severe aspects of it. Though it can takes weeks, or even months for people to return to some semblance of normal.

The best advice the aardvark can give at this point is to talk to her friends. Someone must know what this substance actually was, and care enough about her to provide the info.
