SWIM swalloed his pride and got help
So SWIM awoke this morning in full w/d's after making a conscious decision not to pursue anymore pills and to work up the nerve to talk with his family about his problem and seek help. The morning started with picking his mother up from the airport, coming home and calling his sister to come over so he could talk to all of them at the same time. It took a while, but finally SWIM sat everyone down and just blurted it out and surprisingly enough, they took it very well and immediately asked what we can do to help him get through it. SWIM informed them he had done some research and found a very local doctor's office that treats only opiate addicts so he assumes they know their shit.
SWIM's family agreed to help him with the bill, which was not very much and also the cost of the script, which again was not as bad as he thought it would be as he has no insurance. Upon walking into the office, his vitals were taken, a quick rundown of usage and feelings taken and after consulting with the doc, SWIM was given an 8mg suboxone and asked to sit for an hour to see how he reacts to it and if he needs more. About 30 minutes in, they came to check on SWIM and as he was feeling marginally better, was asked to fill out paper work and perform an in-depth interview about his usage, how he's feeling, what he expects and what they will provide.
All in all, SWIM was very pleased with his treatment, he never felt he was being talked down to and the people helping him seemed very invested in making him feel better. To continue receiving scripts for suboxone, SWIM is required to attend group meetings at the facility as well as weekly meetings with the doctor, which will taper to once or twice a month interviews after a while of being in treatment. SWIM is now 12 hours into his 48th hour of not taking oxycodone and honestly feels "normal" and noth the same normal he was using oxy to feel like. Good ole fashioned normal.
More to come.
