Quetiapine and ecstasy/MDMA

Hi,
I have been prescribed quetiapine for possible bi-polar, andhave yet to take it as I am wary of the sedating side-effects and the effects that this will have on my last few weeks of university.
I have been prescribed 200mg for 1 week and then up to 400mg the next week- I think it will be reviewed after the 2 weeks. I am aware that they advise you not to drink alcohol, at least until you are 'used to' the drug, however was wondering if anyone knows how ecstasy or MDMA would affect it? Either positively or negatively...

Re: Quetiapine and ecstasy/MDMA

These two cannot be taken together as the quetiapine will block most of the MDMA's effects. It's an antagonist at the 5-HT1a, and 5-HT2 binding sites, MDMA will be relatively non-euphoric while on this medication.

swim found seroquel and MDMA to be a toxic situation. Swims shrinky dink said it may have caused a bit of cholinergic syndrome

That's a really good point to bring up! Although I highly doubt that MDMA has promotes any anti-cholinergic activity, ecstasy pills are so notoriously impure, that even when taking pure MDMA may be safe with one prescription med, an additive could make it life threatening.

Re: Quetiapine and ecstasy/MDMA

mdma is an ACh agonist it looks

as with seroquel

swim appologies for the indirect links to articles

admitidly swim doesn't know what creates a choline syndrome. although serotonin syndrome is an excess so two agonists may well be enough

Re: Quetiapine and ecstasy/MDMA

So if your 5ht and dopamine are depleted from the MDMA, and you're taking a med that blocks the post synaptic terminals for those same neurotransmitters...speaking from imaginary experience, it'll make the hang-over worse, and be careful not to push your luck, it might have more harmful repercussions.

Re: Quetiapine and ecstasy/MDMA

SWIM has done MDMA many times while on Seroquel but always took the latter 12 hours after his last dose of E/Molly, If that makes a difference, As he always took Seroquel to sleep not first thing In the morning.
