Extraction - Water based extraction of active ingredients in kava

Hey guys, SWIM tried this in the Newbie Chemistry forum with no luck so here's another go..... it's definitely possible but SWIM is finding it a little hard to find information on the subject - not necessarily relating to kava specifically but water based extraction in general....

SWIM was just wondering if there is a way to extract the active ingredients of kava using water instead of other solvents. SWIM has successfully made extracts of kava with 99% isopropyl alcohol and has had some success with ethanol. There is however some negative publicity for extracts made with alcohol and SWIM has seen at least two different companies advertising that their extracts made with water are safer. If anyone could answer how this is done or even give a heads up as to where or what to search for on this subject that would be great.
