SWIM's Overdose: WTF?

As many of you know, swim has been taking codeine moderately for about a year and a half now. He's done like 300mg+ more than once and not even once in his life did he overdose even slightly.

But last night, swim did a CWE on 24 500/30/8 Solpadeine capsules. This would amount to about 190mg if no codeine was lost (which is highly unprobable).

Anyways, he feels it hitting and he goes watch some TV.He gets sleepy and falls asleep for about 10min.Right after he wakes up, he realises that he's not breathing automatically anymore, but has to concentrate on breathing (tipical opiate overdose symptom).

He then gets extremely paranoid and is EXTREMELY sensitive to ANY sound,(he had to shut off his PC).He then goes to sleep shortly after that.He feels just fine when he wakes up in the morning.

Now, swim is pretty sure this was an overdose because of the obvious symptoms (except the paranoia). But has taken this dosage at least 50 times before with absolutely no adverse effects.

Only other substances consumed that day were:

Tobacco (about 4 cigarettes)

and cetrizine (non-sedating anti-histaminic).

Any theories as to how the fuck this happened?

Robo

Re: SWIM's Overdose: WTF?

Did swiy have the taste of sick in the back of his throat along with a feeling that he'd been to the depths of unconciousness that no one should ever sink to?

Re: SWIM's Overdose: WTF?

Few possible reasons.

1. Not having recent use -> Lowering of tolerance
2. Fuck up in the maths/CWE.

Not sure beyond that mate-

Re: SWIM's Overdose: WTF?

drugs dont always affect you in the same manner as a rule. there can be many variables involved- empty stomach, low immune system, etc, etc, etc.

did swiy drink it or IV it?

was swiy laying on their back on the lounge?

also be weary of "non drowsy" antihistamines, they can still cause drowsiness in some people. swim was advised against giving her son zyrtec for this very reason. (he used to have bad sinus troubles, until he had his adenoids removed and nasal passages scraped out- forget the name of this).

edit:

What drug(s) may interact with cetirizine?

Because cetirizine can cause drowsiness, other medicines that also cause drowsiness may increase this effect of cetirizine. Some medicines that cause drowsiness are:
• barbiturates such as phenobarbital
• certain antidepressants or tranquilizers (for example, amitriptyline, chlorpromazine, desipramine, doxepin, imipramine, nortriptyline, thioridazine, trifluoperazine)
certain narcotics or pain medicines (for example, codeine, hydrocodone, meperidine, methadone, morphine, oxycodone, or propoxyphene)
• certain medicines used for anxiety or to help produce sleep (for example, alprazolam, chloral hydrate, diazepam, lorazepam, meprobamate)
• certain antihistamines used in cold medicines (for example, diphenhydramine or chlorpheniramine)
• medicines containing alcohol
Ask your prescriber or health care professional about other medicines that may increase the effect of cetirizine.

What side effects may I notice from taking cetirizine?
Serious side effects to cetirizine are rare. Side effects that you should report to your prescriber or health care professional as soon as possible:
• any unusual effects that are bothersome
Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your prescriber or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome):
• diarrhea
• dizziness
• drowsiness
• dry mouth
• fatigue
• headache
• nausea or stomach upset
• sore throat

Re: SWIM's Overdose: WTF?

Ok, swim thinks he knows what happened. He forgot to mention that he had also taken "Ranatidine" like half an hour before.

He has read that it is a CYP450 inhibitor although it has 10% of the streanght of cimetidine. He's heard of using cimetidine to potentiate codeine...Could it be possible that the ranatidine had something to do with this?

Swim would appreciate it if someone could find some specifics as to what enzymes it inhibits.Swim will, anyways, try it again as soon as he's done with his CWE (still filtering). He'll post what happened tomorow...If he survives

Re: SWIM's Overdose: WTF?

Did it give swiy a better high, or just knock swiy out?

Swims personal overdose experience was like he described earlier, he woke up after about 2 hours and just instictively knew somehow that death had brushed his shoulder. Still, the drug was in full swing by that time, so he felt fuqqing fantastic!

He tried this again, but fell asleep before he could determine if it had been potentiated. He will try again today...

There was absolutely no euphoria, just confusion...It sucked big time.

Re: SWIM's Overdose: WTF?

No not sleep apnea. SWIM experiences extreme paranoia, jumpiness, using Diphenhydramine (old drowst antihistamine). I'd put money on it being the Cetirizine.
