SWIM will be taking Methylone this weekend. He is randomly tested at his job for drugs. Does anyone know if Methylone will shop up in a drug test or be mistaken for something else, possibly MDMA? I realize that Methylone is an RC so it probably isn't even in any test kits' makeup. Nevertheless, the fear is that it would be mistaken for something else. Also, anyone know how long MDMA and/or Methylone stays in your system? Thanks! |

SWIM has heard of 2c-x's coming up as traces of amphetamine, so it wouldn't surprise him if methylone came up as well since its methylenedioxyphenylpropan-1-one , but then again the report SWIM heard happened when he was tested the day after using 2c-x's, he would figure the max time a rc would stay in your system would be a week.

swim has read in other sites about mdma staying in the system only 2-3 days, I would assume methylone is similar in half life. mdma has about the same as meth (halflife).

MDMA triggers a positive reaction for amphetamines. Chemically, MDMA
is to amphetamine as methylone is to cathinone. So it seems to me that the question here is: Does cathinone trigger a response to drug tests? If so, then so should methylone. I could find no answer to this by searching erowid.Edited by: radiometer |

Methylone is an amphetamine that is taken in dosses of 150 to 250 mg by many people. Given this fact it seems very likely that methylone could trigger a positive amphetamine reaction.

Re: Methylone and Drug Test
I've heard that SWIM knows a few people who would be very interested in Methylone if it doesn't cause false positives. I hope that someone can answer this thread's question so that we can assist SWIM's friends in their noble quest for knowledge.

Re: Methylone and Drug Test
i've been wondering about the cross-reactivity of methamphetamine/ecstacy tests to methylone too. This is what I found:
It looks like most meth tests detect the parent compound, rather than metabolites, probably because of it's long half-life. The tests cross-react to ephedrine, phenylpropanolamine, benzadrine--So maybe methylone too. I couldn't find any info on what part of the meth molecule the test reacts to- that would've been helpful. On the other hand, Wellbutrin (bupropion) doesn't give a false positive and it's very similar to Methylone. So it could go either way. In a test situation I'd go the following route: -Try to descretely damage the seal that goes over the top of the vial. This will be recorded on the chain of custody form by the tech when it is received at the testing facility. This can later be used as a basis for invalidation of the test. -Report Wellbutrin/Zyban/bupropion on the testing form (if you think you can validate this) -If you come up positive, admit nothing. Most labs will only perform a more accurate (and more expensive for them) test if the client denies use. Another test is another opportuniy for someone to screw up. I'm sure I missed a lot, anybody got more info? Re: Methylone and Drug Test
Anyone know a cool doctor willing to run a drug test on someone who has taken Methylone? That would settle it.

Re: Methylone and Drug Test
More web work found items suggesting that bupropion does cross-react with amphetamine tests.

Re: Methylone and Drug Test
More info:
I spoke with the folks at Norchem, a testing service for employers, social services, and probation/parole departments. Explaining it as a privacy issue of my medical history, I asked if on retest would the non-methamphetamine drug be identified to my employer, or would it simply be reported as a negative? I was told that the drug in question, bupropion, would come back positive on the initial immunoassay, however the GC/MS retest would be reported as negative. The FDA requires that drug tests have a strong background of research and standarization. Since methylone is pretty uncommon there just isn't the backing to use the results in criminal proceedings, since it is unknown what Rx meds might be metabolized to it, I think it's safe bet that methylone won't create a true positive for meth. |

Re: Methylone and Drug Test
As a chemist, I'd really doubt it. But it depends on how cheap a test they're using. If it tests for carbon, hydrogen, and nitrogen only: METH! If they try for something a bit more specific - methylone should not be visible. I'd still want to have a methylone-imbiber pee in a tube and run the best meth-test they got.
