well, ive got A2 exams in a bit but i thought i'd take a day off from revuision and get pished...and i've had 12.6 units (3 K Cider cans...which is 4.6 above the binging limit of UK, 8 units is bingeing in the UK) in about 2 hours...and feel quite fine really.

Exactly, no-one has completed an extensive and controlled study with a reasonable number of participants to discern what levels of alcohol are likely to trigger health problems in otherwise healthy adults. The limits suggested by government have dropped (once it was 3-4 units for men/ 2-3 for women, now I often hear 2-3 and 1-2 respectively.) In mid-20th century French wine advertisements, instead of "veuillez boire avec responsabilite", simply said "pas plus de deux LITRES par jour!"
That's right, only 60 years ago it was considered acceptable to drink up to 2 litres of wine per day, which at even a low ABV (9%) is 18 units of alcohol.

What annoys me the most is the signs showing a pregnant woman with a red line through her on many alcohol bottles now marketed in Britain. Fuck the government, if my girlfriend ever gets a bun in the oven I will actively encourage her to cook it in beer and quality mixed drinks The Nanny State has morphed beyond all recognition into a perverse force of dominance. ID cards, ubiquitous CCTV & speed-cameras, immigration checks, enhanced CRB clearance, the smoking ban, calorie colour coding, NHS databases, endless TV campaigns about drink driving, mobile driving, speeding, healthy eating, seatbelts, smoking and even condoms- not to mention the systems put in place to surveil youth such as the Common Abduction Framework (violates data protection laws, ought to be struck down this minute but SWIM doesn't have the funds to take out a private prosecution against it.)

Regardless of SWIYs political stance or personal beliefs, ethanol, and more specifically it's metabolic byproducts (Acetaldehyde in particular) are known to be carcinogenic, and possibly teratogenic. Just because a nanny state is telling you what you can and can not do, does not mean common sense should go out the window. Putting an unborn child in possible harm is not ever good advice.

how anyone could encourage foetal alcohol syndrome for their own children just astonishes me.

if a picture of a pregnant woman can make a pregnant woman feel guilty about drinking, deter them from drinking, then its a good thing. kids are the future after all.
