SWIM is going to see his doctor in a week to get a refill on ritalin. Current prescription is at 15 mg. per day but SWIM is pretty sure this is way too low. SWIM has ADHD and Ritalin is very helpful. So SWIM has been doubling his daily dose (or more) to 30-35 mg./day. This means SWIM has had about 12 days on, and about 18 days off Ritalin. Obviously SWIM should not tell the doctor that he has taken more than he was prescribed but SWIM desperately wants the doctor to understand that SWIM should have more. How should SWIM frame his request so that the doctor, who pretty much thinks SWIM is full of shit, agrees to raise the dosage:
- I think I need a higher dose.
- We should raise my dose.
- Would it be reasonable to raise my dose?
- I believe a higher dose would better suit me.
- I need more.
Anyone have experience talking to a doctor in a way that is convincing. (SWIM actually needs more, but again, SWIM just comes off as an abusive type for some unknown reason....).
