how does that bible story go?
The one about that chick who is chained down and a buncha people are gonna throw rocks at her. Then jesus sais something along the lines of, whoever has committed no sin shall cast the first rock. Soemthing like that. This story has one obvious meaning, that we can not condemn her because we have done wrong ourselves. But i have doubts as to whether that is true or not. Because, we all know that murderers have done wrong and even if we have all sinned at some point, we still have the right to condemn what the murderer has done. I think that there is another meaning in this story. One that teaches a fundamental equality among man. IF man was born with intrinsic values, meaning that some people were "better" then others, that would mean that there must be a perfect standard from which to compare each individual man. Or one could judge it's effeciency in completing its designed purpose. But since we as men know not of what our designed purposes are, we must use the previous techniquie, comparing to some perfect standard. The only perfect standard that i can think of for which to judge men by is God. Man was designed after God, and God is the epitome of perfection, therefore the best way to judge whether one man is "better" then another is to determine which one is more "godly" then the other. Unfortunately without an intrinsic knowledge of the exact nature of God, it seems that this is impossible to do. One must be born with an apriori knowledge of this nature of God, because this nature is not something that is possible to be learned. But who would have knowledge of teh exact nature of God, and how would we know who this is? Well, lets look back at that bible story, it seems that the man who has commit no sin is the one who can justly throw a rock at this woman. To throw the rock at the woman would be to judge her as so lowly in value as a human that it is just for her to be killed. To determine this lowly value one must have the aforementioned knowledge of the exact nature of God. Therefore, the one who has the knowledge of the exact nature of God is the one who has commited no sin in their lifetime. And this would make sence, for all of the sins explicitly stated in the bible were basicly, love thy neighbor (fellow man) and do variations of do unto otehrs as you would have done to you. But these are very hard to live by, because frankly sinning is fucking sweet, and though we all agree that harming our fellow man is wrong, when the time comes for us to gain advantage by doing so, not many of us will say no. The only one who would say no to this fun oportunity would be someone with an intrinsic knowledge of Right and Wrong, which is to say an explicit knowledge of the nature of God. So, if one is religious, it seems that the only person who is capable of judging one man better then the other is the man who has no committed and sin, to the best of my knowledge, is Jesus. Which explains why he is the one who judges us come apocolypse. Keep in midn though that this is only christian scripture, i personaly tend to follow these teachings because even whent he theological element is removed, they still teach some very good life lessons. |
