testing purity of gbl

Swim purchased 50ml of gbl and has seen 500ml on another site for less than twice the price.

swim was considering using ph paper as a rough guide. test the current batch then if the next batch is diluted it would have a ph closer to neutral. this of course wouldn't prove if there was any gbl in the cheaper batch at all, and the gbl could just be cut with another acid to give a misleading result.

its not a great amount of money so swim could just purchase it and hope for the best.

any suggestions?
