What ethnobotanicals to grow in cold climate?

I live in the Midwestern united states, POSSIBLY in the vicinity of Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin. Illinois. We have warm summers and BALL FREEZING COLD WINTERS! My aunts, lesbian lovers, third cousins, boyfriends, pet cats other owner, is considering growing legal pychoactive plants up here. She/He's question is this, what plants would be intellignt to grow in this area? We have 3-4 more months of good weather, good soil, good weather. But still only 3-4 months. I will give an example of what I mean. Wild Dagga. Takes a year to attain a good height and flower, but would die very quickly in our winter. Would Lactusa Virosa (wild Lettuce) be worth it? These are questions I have.
I also would like to ask if Lactusa Serriola would be a more intelligent idea considering the fact that it grows here already, and may or may not survive our summers, and may or may not be here next year whether or not I help.
Remember I dont mind spending 20 + on seeds, I just dont want little return for the time and effort and minimal amount of money put into this.
PS-Catnip, Mint, Spearmint, Coleus, etc. Just any plants that would be "fun" would help. Thanks.
