Mysterious recurrent nosebleeds

Swim started to get nosebleeds quite often for bloody (oh dear) obvious reasons. At the end of each session of maybe 2 days awake speeding she was likely to get quite a long lasting one the morning after. So after this happened a few times (three days running) she decided to put her speed in drinks in the name of harm reduction as they say *in the trade*
She likes snorting speed a lot but has no interest in losing any part of her nose. And frankly so long as she has some amphetamine in her body most days she doesn't much care how it gets there.

Now it has been over a month and she doesn't miss it at all. She is doing less speed overall which has to be good.

Anyway the situation is that she is now getting nosebleeds for no reason at all, not as serious as the ones she got when still ramming grams of drain cleaner and battery acid derivatives up her hooter but pretty often.
One reason kitty thinks might be possible is that she has been suffering from hayfever quite badly this summer so has been sneezing her head off every morning for a number of weeks.

Could this have ruptured some blood vessels in her nose, compounded by a thinner nasal interior or whatever the hell you want to call it (hmm you can tell swim has extensive medical knowledge ha ha)
Any info and ideas much appreciated... thanks...

Re: Mysterious recurrent nosebleeds

swim is sorry to hear that! Has swiy had any more in the past few days? The ruptured blood vessels / capillaries idea sounds plausible. But swim also thinks its worth noting that his friend the roadrunner used to get these all the time as well. However, he only partook using the nose a few times before switching to other forms of speed that were easier to obtain.

Even after swim's roadrunner friend started using other forms that were taken orally, he still got nosebleeds frequntly. A side effect of the white stuff is to dry out one's mouth, regardless of ingestion method. One wonders if that could have an effect on the other mucous membranes as well, causing the skin in the nose to become extremely dry. Swim is no medical professional, but he wonders if there is a connection there...

Re: Mysterious recurrent nosebleeds

It might be worth suggesting to this individual to try checking her blood pressure, before, during, and after amphetamine use. It's possible that the ruptures are due to elevated blood pressure, combined with the dehydrating effects noted by DecoyPencil.

Does she live in an area with very low humidity? Has she recently been using radiant heat at home or in the workplace? This can dry out the air and produce nosebleeds, especially overnight. Also, has she been mouth-breathing recently as a result of the hayfever? My experience has been that mouth-breathing, again especially while sleeping, has a harmful impact on the respiratory tract, and can lead to sore throat and nosebleeds.

Thanks, could be... But the cheetah is always drinking water so dehydration is not too much of an issue. Lately she has not had any nosebleeds. But then the hayfever has also got a lot better. She doesn't take anything for hayfever, ironically... Generally she never remembers to take anything unless actually addicted to it ha ha. Unless it's to avoid a terrible contingency like having kids... (well having *cubs* in the present circs would be far from ideal, the only good thing would be nine months enforced abstinence but that's another topic...)

In response to this...
Swim lives in Northern England. Like most cities it's humid to some degree due to pollution etc. Cold but humid if swiy can stand the contradiction. At work it's if anything rather cold cause of protecting artworks from damage (kitty is security/education person in an art gallery). No real change there lately either.
As for blood pressure, would the cat need to get a blood pressure cuff and have someone else take her blood pressure? Or is there some way to do it herself? She lives alone and although she has an active social life, and her close friends know of her habit, she is not crazy about mentioning it or involving others as friends in her city don't do speed... only her friends from her home city 200 miles south do it...
Anyway thanks a lot for your responses...

My cats actually get, well, not nosebleeds per se, but when they blow their noses there's blood in the tissue and if the noses are really dry and the boogers have to be, um, harvested, there is usually blood in the dried snot (not fresh blood from dislodging them). This is happening now, as it does every allergy season, and the cats rarely take anything for the hayfever either.

So it could just be the hayfever itself.

Re: Mysterious recurrent nosebleeds

Yeah maybe. This kitty has a tendency to blame all (rather minor) health complaints on ampnhetamine cause it is the only thing she does which is bad for her (she doesn't really like drinking well v moderate anyway) and doesn't smoke... so its strictly speed and cake (not at the same time, mind)
Kitty really means cake as in sugary confection not cocaine typo'd
thanks for advice

Re: Mysterious recurrent nosebleeds

Swim's girlfriend gets nosebleeds as sores in her nose all the time,...yet she has never snorted a thing. She did work in a factory where humidity was kept down. Then on the flip side,...Swim who was known to do massive massive lines and piles of meth at a time. One time just to be a smart as s literally shoved a shard which probably weighed over two grams......up his nostril and into his sinus ( big big huge mistake,......the worst burn ever experienced, plus it lasted over an hour. Not to mention not a wink of sleep for 3 days,......ahhhh, the good times eh?? ) all that for years and years and have not had a single nosebleed.
Ya should get your BP checked tho,....ya can get one to check it yourself at any drug store most likely.

Re: Mysterious recurrent nosebleeds

Swim used to get her blood pressure measured when she was given diet pills by a dodgy doctor in a clinic, it was bog standard (ie normal in British) and more recently when giving blood, again totally normal (before swiy asks, yeah she does wait 4 days speedless before giving blood, but then there is nothing wrong with her blood other than the amphetamine, which might energise lethargic patients)So unlikely to be that. She actually hasn't had them for a number of weeks, and IS being very good about snorting, putting three or four doll's house teaspoons in her coffee instead of sugar does just as wellthanks ;-)
