Is opiate withdrawal bad for you?

I mean in terms of damaging health or shortening life expectancy?

After using every other day, swim has noticed that he's in withdrawal for about the last 6 hours out of every 48. As swiy may already know, he's been doing this for years, but it never really bothered him before, he just stuck it out.

Recently though he's thought that it may be damaging his health in some unneccessary way. A member of his family has just took 2 months off work because of heart palpitations, so he got to thinking; he has palpitations every other day, for at least six hours. While it's not that uncomfortable, it can't be good for swim.

He knows almost for sure, the withdrawal from Tramadol caused some damage, but what about from natural opiates?
