Opiate + toxic chemical interaction?
my friend asked me to post this on his behalf (he can't type):
Hello all, this is a weird question that may or may not require knowledge of pharmacology to explain. Some time ago, I first started experimenting with opiates. I some low doses 5 or 10mg at a time which were spaced out between about a week between each other and at least a week prior to a high dose, about 3 low-dose experiences total... I took--with no tolerance and on empty stomache--5 x [5mg prescription oxycodones with APAP "percocet"]--25mg total--(I did this via a cold water extraction to remove the APAP and drank the opiate water)... it was a great experience, felt fine afterwards. Just recently, I found some again, though a little different... this time I took 1 x 5mg pill about 5 days before a high dose experience. I then took 3 x [5mg prescription instant release oxycodones "roxicodone"]--15mg total--again with no tolerance and on empty stomach... I did this normally by swallowing them whole as I read that these contained no APAP. However, this time, something went wrong. I got sick... I felt really drowsy, I got the itching sensations and mild euphoria but not even the amount of ephoria I got with just one roxi a 5 days before, and had a sick feeling in my head (nausea, only not a stomach-pain type of nausea, this was a headache-nausea). I vomitted about 4 times that night. Here is the catch, which may or may not be responsible. A day before the bad time with 3 roxicodones, I had been using cleaning chemicals (namely bleach and mr. clean) to clean a floor in an enclosed area, and I got a headache and swollen throat glands afterwards so I think I had mild chemical poisoning (but no fainting or nausea). I immediately began taking immune supplements for that day and the next like NAC, pure vitamin C powder, vitamin D, etc. But still, I felt kinda sick (although less than before) the next day when I took the roxis. My questions: 1) Do you think the chemical poisoning preoccupied my immune system such that it lead my body to reject any further intoxicatants (roxicodone)? 2) If #1 is no, then why did this not happen with 25mg the first time, but with the second time when I took even less-- 15mg total. Could it be due to the instant release factor of the roxis? (Although wouldnt a cold water extraction make the [percs I took the first time] instant release? 3) Could it be because I developed tolerance the first time (although they werent too close together in time) that I did not get sick? If one were taking 5 or 10mg oxycodone on 4 occasions, how close would those occasions have to be in time to create tolerance? Please share any insight that can be contributed, as my friend would like to try roxi's again but do not want the same horrible experience... my friend really appreciates the help. Re: Opiate + toxic chemical interaction?
These type of questions and discussions have always interested swim, and since swim is a fellow with a lot of experience with opiates (opium, heroin, oxycodone, dilaudid, fentanyl, & many more) SWIM will be happy to give you his opinion.
Answer to #1. In SWIM's own experience, he has noticed that when you consume even moderate amounts of strong opiates (in ur case, 'roxycodone') either while your body already has a lot of other medications and drugs, or the immune system is weak, one is MUCH more likely to experience the bad side effects of opiates. SWIM can personally think of several cases where an overload happened in his body and a normal dose of smack (used every day for a few months) sent him into the bathroom, with nausea, vomiting, headaches, body aches, the whole sha-bang. And one must note that at the time SWIM had been using heroin & synthetic opiates regularly and had never experienced sickness like that while under the influence. A similar thing happened a few years ago when SWIM was on a high dose of methadone (finally got off street opiates) and tried using H. again, only to find that it made me incredibly sick-feeling, but not as bad as the previous overload I described. Although your case was different, and involved overexposure to harsh chemicals, possibly poisoning to some degree, nonetheless the body can only handle so much abuse. No matter what, usually the body gets to a point where it can take no more and it starts to protest; vomiting, nausea, sweating, fever-like symptoms. These are all signs that your body is trying to get rid of whatever is hurting it. Classic symptoms of a body overload. With that said, I wholeheartedly believe that your bad experience was mainly attributed to the bleach poisoning you experienced before you took the opiates. Your body was trying to restore itself, and was probably very weak at the time, and when you brought in all that powerful medicine your body just revolted. Thats my own humble opinion! |

Re: Opiate + toxic chemical interaction?
Years of observing the rats self-administer a wide variety of opiates at doses from miniscule to overbearing has revealed no rhyme or reason in their responses. That is to say, taking opiates does not always produce euphoria, in fact, dysphoria (feeling shitty) is a very common side-effect, as are the others you mentioned.
Your reaction could be related to the chemical exposure from the day before (day before right?), but you should know that the symptoms you describe are not an entirely uncommon reaction to opiates. Even if it's the same opiate you've been using, even if it is in the same dose range you've been using, it is possible, though unpredictable, to get pretty much the opposite of the desired effect from time to time. Also, I do hope that the person you refer to in your post is not actually you, but Someone Who Isn't You. |

Re: Opiate + toxic chemical interaction?
#1. SWIY may not have ingested all the oxycodone with the cold water--maybe some precipitated out. Just a guess.
#2. The oxycodone solution would have acted faster than the tablets, unless the tablets were finely crushed. #3. I don't know what's in Mr. Clean, but bleach in an unventilated area is kind of dumb. Not surprised SWIY got a headache, however... #4. The substances you mentioned aren't antidotes to cleaning chemicals. All SWIY needed was fresh air. #5. Depending on what other supplements SWIY took, they could have interacted with the oxycodone. #6. No one develops a tolerance that quickly. #7. Your immune system has nothing to do with opioids or cleaning supplies, unless you're allergic to them. The NAC, unless I'm mistaken, was a good idea but probably overkill, unless SWIY has liver failure. Only with liver failure or some other major problems would SWIY not have eliminated all traces of the cleaning stuff by the next day. Hard to say what went on, but I seriously doubt it had anything to do with the bleach and Mr. Clean. |
