Thumbs up Ketamine: Dreams and Realities

This book is at once insightful and informative; the author Karl Jansen has really done his legwork on this one. His medical research background is definitely evident in his explanation of the neuropharmacology of ketamine, though he approaches the subject in a way that is understandable and enlightening to both the layperson and the sophisticate. Most importantly, the book discusses every aspect of the ketamine experience, from the NMDA receptor blockade to the K-hole, from the street user to Dr. John Lilly. Also helpful are the wealth of first-hand experience reports, in this aspect Ketamine: Dreams and Realities is a must-read for anyone who has ever clicked through the Erowid Experience Vaults, indeed, anyone who has ever had even a passing interest in ketamine. Altogether, the book is an enjoyable read, with fascinating experience reports, reliably sourced information, and an unbiased perspective from an extremely capable author. I am definitely anticipating new releases by Karl Jansen.

Re: Ketamine: Dreams and Realities

This is the book about ketamine. Jansen did very through research on this topic, some of which was available in papers in scientific journals previously. He is the world's leading expert on the non-medical use of ketamine. I found it fascinating to read as well. I could hardly put it down. Casual readers of Erowid might fear that there brains will be damaged by "Olney's lesions". Reading this book will disabuse them of that particular myth. However, Jansen does not gloss over the dangers of ketamine and its potentially destructive addictiveness.
