BZP and GBL are to be banned in the UK.

Did a search and couldn't see this.

Government plans to ban legal "party drugs"
Thu May 21, 2009 3:14pm BST

LONDON (Reuters) - New measures to ban so-called "party drugs" were announced by the government on Thursday.

Home Secretary Jacqui Smith said it would consult on its plans to control the recreational drugs GBL and BZP, known as herbal ecstasy, which give users "legal highs."

"I am determined that we respond to the dangers of these drugs and that is why I have committed to controlling them," she said. "It is absolutely right that we continue to adapt our drug policy to the changing environment of substance misuse."

"This is the next step in tackling the unregulated market of so called 'legal highs.'"

GBL and its precursor 1,4 BD are widely used legally as solvents but when ingested they can be converted in the body into GHB, also known as liquid ecstasy, which is already a Class C controlled drug.

Last year the Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs said GBL should be made a Class C drug, saying GHB was potentially fatal and that it had also been linked to "date rape" cases because of its potentially debilitating effect.

It also recommended the stimulant BZP, which some users reported had caused adverse reactions such as vomiting, stomach pains and palpitations, should also be outlawed.

The consultation also sets out the government's plan to add a further 24 anabolic steroids to its list of steroids currently controlled as Class C drugs.

Re: BZP and GBL are to be banned in the UK.

most drugs SWIM doesn't agree that should be banned.

but GBL and BZP are highly dangerous and should be buried and forgotten about.

GBL for example is so easy to OD on and go into a coma or worse death.
and it is lethal when mixed with things such as alcohol.

BZP has caused SWIM no end of problems from weeks long depersonalization and derealization to even possibly epilepsy 1.5 years later from an OD.

is was like swim had gone psychotic, slightly out of body experience for weeks on end, was off balance/dizzy and swim's vision perception depth was all out of focus, all at the same time.
swim thought he had fried his brain on it.

Could you please post this in the news forum instead?

BZP seems to be more useless substance, whereas GBL is IMO useful to some degree despite it's dirty image.

GBL hasn't caused many deaths by itself. Dosing isn't that hard if one isn't a dumbass and drink unknown strengths of GBL-liquids. Alcohol does cause a mass of deaths alone, and is equally dangerous in combination with other downers. Alcohol is also likely more toxic to your liver and brain. Do you think alcohol should be banned too?

Depersonalization is a psychological problem, which indicates that SWIY should propably abstain from many other drugs also, such as cannabis, psychedelics and other stimulants. This is not directly the effect of the drug on the brain, but rather effect of experience to the mind.

Is losing touch with reality ever a good thing?

Pacman experienced de-realisation through ecstasy abuse and it isn't nice at all. He found himself questioning things that were perfectly normal but they just seemed odd to him. Even daft things like words would not look quite right anmore.

Surely that would depend on how good/bad ones reality is ?

Klaus added 1 Minutes and 30 Seconds later...

Swim has used BZP with no problems . Conversely Alcohol nearly Killed Swim.

Re: BZP and GBL are to be banned in the UK.

SWIM has never tried GBL it doesn't really appeal to her. SWIM has done BZP a fair few times, quite good buzz but horrendous comedown, worse than MDMA, SWIM only uses if she can't get hold of pills/MD for a rave

Re: BZP and GBL are to be banned in the UK.

Hello, there has been a few threads on this topic...here's one...

http://www.drugs-forum.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=106368

BZP is still currently legal although it is likely to be banned at the turn of the year-subject to parlimentary approval. BZP is still one of the ingredients used in some legal highs along with other piperazines, despite BZP stickers being labelled on products. Hope this helps )
