In This Thread We Amass The Positives Of Using Heroin
what are the positive effects of heroin in your opinion?
in hindsight, the positive effects of heroin included detachment from reality, it stopped the horrid withdrawals, enabled her to sleep, and the rush once upon a time was something she quite enjoyed. |

AW: In This Thread We Amass The Positives Of Using Heroin
It help Swim to live with his very strong AD/HS.
When Swim started with Heroin/ Opiates there have been no other help and not many People know this Syndrome. It was like a Crutch for his Life who help him not to do suicide! Last edited by Spucky; 20-05-2009 at 14:58. |

Re: In This Thread We Amass The Positives Of Using Heroin
The first thing SWIM remembers thinking and feeling when he was awakening into consciousness was that this was all just wrong. He was extremely melancholy as a child, and when he hit about 12-13 that turned into severe depression. Since then not a day went by that SWIM didn't think about suicide, and argue within himself or try and convince himself to just do it. SWIM also did not and does not feel "real" heartfelt pleasure without drugs. He can feel distractions, which are pleasant because they give him a moment of relief by taking him out of his mind/body for a moment, but he does not feel things except on a superficial and artifically psychologically-self-constructed level. He was extremely stoic as a child and almost emotionless because of his lack of feelings, and it wasn't until he started using ecstasy around age 18 that he learned that he could feel very positive emotions towards people and about things (like optimism, caring, empathy, compassion, different kinds of love, sacrifice, etc.). Prior to that SWIM tried all different kinds of medications and went to all kinds of doctors, psychologists, psychiatrists who did all kinds of tests on him to try and figure out "what's wrong." SWIM tried every anti depressant (giving each a good amount of time to [supposedly] work, too), as well as all kinds of creative attempts by various mental health professionals - anti-psychotics, amphetamines / narcolepsy medication, ADD medication, and others SWIM doesn't remember. SWIM hated/hates all of them; they just made him feel worse, not to mention the side effects. Most people SWIM's age would have killed for the amphetamine / ADD medication prescriptions he had, but SWIM didn't even take them and stopped bothering to even get them after a while - SWIM just wanted something to make him not hate being alive; not a bunch of disgusting, bizarre, barely understood synthetic chemicals that "they" "think" "kind of work" on people.
Using other drugs such as cocaine and ecstasy, maybe 3-4 weekends a month from age 18 - 23 helped him at least experience enough pleasure to not completely shut down and give up; but neither cocaine nor ecstasy is a drug which is chemically suited to long-term use. SWIM was near the top of his class his first year in law school, got a bunch of awards, had a great job and such; but he was miserable and decided he was just going to self destruct and go out in a blaze of glory. He just couldn't stand how it felt to be inside his mind and body anymore. Right around that time he was introduced to heroin. He knew the stereotypes of junkies, and his first impression was that maybe heroin would be a good thing to try and destroy his life with and burn out to. He found some and tried it a short time later, and here's where SWIM can start listing the positives: - SWIM went from hating every second of being alive, to loving life. - SWIM stopped thinking about killing himself all the time. - SWIM never cared about anything in his life. Heroin made him actually care about things and want to go out and accomplish goals in his life. - SWIM started caring about society and other people. - SWIM used to hate people in generally, and especially having to talk to them. Heroin made SWIM like to go out and meet new people and just talk to and learn from random people. - SWIM hated working more than anything in life. That is really what made him decide he wanted to just throw it all away; because working just wasn't worth being alive to SWIM. Heroin made him not mind working at all, and he became an even better worker. - He did even better than before in school, perhaps related to the following. - He found he was smarter, could absorb information faster, and write a lot more eloquently and expressively on heroin (possibly from always being relaxed and happy?). SWIM read about 3 large books a week the ~4 years he was on heroin. - SWIM felt healthier on heroin. His skin was perfect, and his body maintained a very nice musculature and proportion on its own. - SWIM always had sleep problems, and heroin made him sleep perfectly and always feel fully rested. There's certainly a million more; but basically to sum it up, heroin completely changed SWIM's life for the better - while he could afford to do it. Unfortunately his money ran out, and that's when a lot of bad things started happening to him. They were all related to not having money though; none of them resulted from the chemical effects of diacetylmorphine. Last edited by dyingtomorrow; 20-05-2009 at 17:40. |

Re: In This Thread We Amass The Positives Of Using Heroin
Swie says that heroin provides a distraction and protection - a barrier from the things she doesn't want to think about. One day she knows she has to face the things she's hiding from. But she always wants just a little bit longer...
She's tried numerous other distractions. Heroin is the only one that really works. |

Re: In This Thread We Amass The Positives Of Using Heroin
Swim thought this would be the shortest list ever, but especially DT's list and testimony are quite impressive and touching, and anything that makes someone want to forget about killing themself can't be all bad. John Lennon said it best: whatever gets you through the night, it's alright, it's alright.

Re: In This Thread We Amass The Positives Of Using Heroin
The positives of using heroin? Geez, where to start!
1. Heroin makes SWIM able to sleep at night. One who does not have SEVERE insomnia does not understand what a relief this is. SWIM would be in a daze all day from not sleeping. She would never feel rested. Once went 48 hours with absolutely NO sleep. Keep in mind this is NOT from the use of drugs. Not even caffiene. This is during a completely drug free time of her life. When she did try to sleep after staying up for so long she would experience hallucinations and would jolt up screaming. In fact, this has happened to her this past week. For the past week SWIM has not been able to sleep for more than 30 mins at a time and after a few days of that started to hallucinate regularly at night and was having a very strong fear of any sound or shadow. Luckily, last night SWIM finally got some H in her and slept like a baby. Woke up feeling great. There is nothing else in the world that works like this for SWIM. Anything that knocks her out (like over the counter sleep medication that only work the first time SWIM uses it) makes her feel like crap the next morning. 2. SWIM has an overactive bladder that is annoying as hell. She always has to pee and if she knows she won't be around a washroom for a while she has to watch her water intake. Heroin completely fixes this and makes her go like a normal person. She does not have a problem peeing high like some people and loves the relief of being able to not have to go every single hour on the hour. 3. SWIM's body and mind relaxes. SWIM is a very tense and nervous person. She gets anxiety around people and is almost never around more than one person at a time (unless at work). Even if she has two friends she will always only hang out with one at a time and never goes out in groups. She still doesn't like hanging out in groups on H but she can chill out a little better while high. This is also a relief as SWIM used to have such bad anxiety she couldn't even go to the store to purchase something. 4. SWIM carb cycles for weight lifting. Meaning she eats lots of carbs one day and the next day eats none but instead eats only protein and fats. Some no-carb days can be very rough (although it is essential for SWIM to gain muscle but not fat) but heroin makes it SO much easier to control the cravings. 5. Since we are on the issue of fitness, heroin also helps SWIM do yoga. When it comes to activities SWIM likes lifting weights, backpacking (slow endurance) but hates cardio and stretching. She gets so bored during yoga she will start doing it and literally stop within 5 minutes. However, on H she can do yoga for a good 30 minutes. It actually feels good and it almosts seems like the heroin is traveling through her veins during downward facing dog If SWIM thinks of anymore she will add later. |
