Cultivation - Water can be bad!

Dear users,
I know I'm new but in our house we at one point had a lot of house plants (Flowers, small trees etc.) but they were all dying for some reason we couldn't understand, we watered them quite a bit, gave them plenty of sunlight but we still could NOT figure out why.
Well come to find out the "Man figure" (Swim's step dad) was watering them with store bought water (hope I don't get in trouble for this) it was collagin (spelling) Well this type of water has absolutely NOTHING nutritional for plants. it's simply to hydrate. Once we switched back to tap the plants were better.
