Following the Dr. Babu's instructions, he first mixed up an ounce solution containing 1 grain of morphia to each 20 minims of water, and another of a 5% solution of cocaine.

Starting with 20 minims of the morphia solution, injected 3 times a day, he reduced the dose by 1 minim each day, and added 1 minim of the cocaine solution, until in twenty days he was using no morphia at all, only cocaine.

He experienced no inconvenience at all, or craving for morphia, only increased pleasure.

It is true that he is now using cocaine, instead of morphia, but then cocaine is much easier to give up than morphia. The deprivation does not cause such distressing and terrible symptoms.
