Wondering: What is stoping people from simply mailing stuff to the US from Colombia?
Let me first say that I am not interested in smugling drugs from colombia or anything like that. BUT. I watched Blow the other night and I also recently read an article about people getting away with sending dope and stuff through the mail. So I put two and two together and came up with this:
Picture This:
A bunch of coke put in a hermetically sealed metal tube which is then put inbetween one of those giant industrial rolls of paper (by giant I mean like 4 foot long and about a foot and a half wide. The metal tube would go inside the cardbord tube that holds the paper). Everthing is cleaned to remove any exterior traces of cocaine, you could even weld the tube closed or something if you wanted to. Then package the whole thing and ship it from colombia to the US. Or anywhere.
The roll of paper was just an example..
Again I have no intent in doing this, but my question I guess is:
Would this work? And if Not. How the hell not?
I can't really even imagine how someone would get caught doing this.
I mean even if they had drug dogs, they wouldnt be able to detect it and an xray would just show a roll of paper. Even if they opened the package, how could they tell there was drugs in it? The only suspicious part is the exra weight but you could minimize that by using a lighter paper with more volume.
Now all these drug cartels would have to do is start a paper factory and export it to the US. They wouldn't have to build homemade frikn submarines that get caught haf the time and cost like a mill to build...
Can someone help me understand why this might not work. It seems too easy to be posible. And maybe a little info on how international shipping works. (ie customs and stuff) so I can have a better understanding of things.
