How long until WD sets in?

Swim's found codeine to be the most flexible addictive drug he's ever used. He took his last dose 30 hours ago, and even though he's slept since then, there're still residual effects left over. He doesn't expect to feel any withdrawal symtoms until around 0 + 44 Hrs ,and usually doses every 48 hours.

This gives swim a healthy chunk of time for tolerance to fall just enough for subsequent doses to retain at least a worthwhile level of potency. He's been going on like this for years (on and off the last year), and while tolerance cannot be halted, this system gives him a huge amount of influence over it.

Swim tried Tramadol earlier this year, that HAD to be taken every 6 hours (on the minute), or WD would kick the crap outta him. There was no flexiblity or control with that.

He was interested to know if anyone else operates like this, or if it's just him.

Re: How long until WD sets in?

Sorry, not to hijack your thread, but SWIM is wondering what withdrawal feels like or what the first signs are?

SWIM believes he is psychologically but not physically addicted to codeine... at this point. He wants to be very very careful to avoid physical addiction.

Re: How long until WD sets in?

No problem, swim wanted to talk anyway.

WD's vary from person to person, and also can vary in the same person depending how deeply addicted they are. If mild, short term use has occured, the WD's should be quite weak and easily coped with. If swim has been hammering it for years, which he has before, then he is in for a rough month.

First, it's the hot feet, these usually happen over night and swim keeps a bowl of water by his bed to cool them down when he WD'ing properly. This is combined with dehydration, he keeps a bottle of water with him at all times to replenish those precious bodily fluids.

Electric shocks to the spine, these can be enjoyable when mild, but when intense swim has known a new definiton of pain and suffering.

Then cramps, mainly in the stomach.

Chills, all swims bones feel like they're made of ice and nothing will ever warm them up again.

Fever, the skin feels like it's on fire, which is a problem when cominbed with the above symptom. Swim never knows whether to warm up or cool down, as one makes the other worse.

After about a month of that getting gradually less severe, swim is usually clear if he can control the psycological longing, which he never can, but he loves a good rollercoaster so nevermind.

It's really not that difficult to make sure physical dependence doesn't take hold, just don't take it for any long than about three months at a time. Also don't take it too often during those three months, take as much as you dare, as infrequently as possible. This will maximize swiys experiences and ward off dependence.

If swiy does become dependent though, all those symptoms can be minimized by NOT going cold turkey, swim ALWAYS cuts down gradually over a month before stopping.

Re: How long until WD sets in?

Interesting. Some of these WD symptoms you mentioned are not what I expected would happen. They do not sound like a lot of fun, I'm sorry that SWIY has to experience this.

SWIM fears dependence. Out of curiosity, what kind of doses was SWIY taking every 48 hrs?

Re: How long until WD sets in?

Meh, swim expected them and he also described them in the worst case, they can be minimized by following the advice at the end of the post.

Swiy should be aware that codeine converts to morphine in the liver, so that if swims habit is large there's not that much difference to coming off codeine as to morphine.

He usually takes 300 mg at a time, which at the average rate, in the average human, converts to 30 mg of morphine.

Re: How long until WD sets in?

Interesting. Thanks for the advice. SWIM will certainly be trying to avoid dependence. This will not be easy as the doctor just prescribed SWIM with 50 T3's.... which is a good or bad thing, depending on how you look at it, lol.

Re: How long until WD sets in?

Miggeth,
you write the most amazing posts regarding codeine. I love it bro.
.................................................. ...............................................
What method is swiy using to medicate with the codeine? CWE? Swim has recently found a great friend that knows someone in a chemist that has had a doctor prescribe codeine pure30mg tablets.
Would continuous use of say 60mg at night before bed time result in the bone chilling w/d symptoms described?...
They sound far worse than swims worst w/d experience to date.
Regards,
MBB

Re: How long until WD sets in?

I'm not actually using at the moment, just been through a WD, there's a thread about it in the R&A section if interested.

When swim was though he used the CWE method for over two years straight, and took it in large doses of pure codeine phosphate, up to 315 mg at a time. That's why the WD was so bad, large doses for a long period of time.

No, 60 mg every 24 hours wouldn't cause a very bad WD once stopped. Of course it would depend how long swiy kept it up.

Re: How long until WD sets in?

If SWIY has regular prolonged exposure (6 months) or longer of high dose of codeine, SWIY will experience some form of WD. It depends on when SWIY is accustomed to taking the codeine. For example, SWIM would take every morning within 15 minutes....NOT A FUN MORNING when you don't have anymore codeine!!

What worked for SWIM was to alternate the time when taking the codeine...for the body seems to become like clockwork when needing the next dose. Also, if SWIY knows they getting low on codeine...then try to lower the dose if possible to lessen WD.

SWIM CANNOT imagine having to overcome a BIG OXY or Perc pill issue.

The psychological WD could be a bigger issue then the physical because the body becomes use to being "comfortably numb". So SWIY stubs the toe which isn't a big deal, but once used to codeine, tylenol or OTC meds SUCK and might feel the need for a stronger med.
