Neuroprotective qualities of Racetams

Although not necessarily proven, the racetams have been reported to "enhance cognition and memory, slow down brain aging, increase blood flow and oxygen to the brain, aid stroke recovery, improve Alzheimer's, Down syndrome, dementia, and dyslexia, among others."
It is hypothesized that most of these positive effects are by modulation of ion channels, and improving the function of ATP in the brain.

Someone has noted that a good dose of piracetam prior to a night of drinking makes a world of a difference in how he feels the next day, notably the decrease in likelihood or severity of a hangover.

What other neuroprotective qualities might the racetams have?

Might they be safe, or even beneficial to combine with ecstasy, amphetamines, cocaine, or ketamine?
