What is the Difference Between Psilocybin and Psilocin?
Can someone explain to me what the difference is between the substances Psilocynand Psilocybin, and what the effect is of Baeocystin? |

First: the names are Psilocin, Psilocybin and additional there is Baeocystin and Nor-Baeocystin. All 4 substances are Tryptamines which are quite similar in structure. There is a theory, that Psilocybin breaks down in the body to Psilocin which seems to be the active substance. Psilocin is also known as less stable (more easily oxidized) and more potent (1.4 times by weight) than Psilocybin. So there is probably no difference in the effects of it. Baeocystin is suspected to be a pre-stage of the mushrooms Psilocin and Psilocybin production. There is very less known about it; only very few scientific reports saying that it is active (about 3 hours duration, compared with 4-7 hours Psilocin & Psilocybin). It is also known to be less hallucinogenic & less visual than the other two. The treshold dose for Baeocystin is 4mg, 10mg show normal effects. Normally there is not enough Baeocystin inside the most "normal" dosed Magic Mushrooms to feel its effects. Although it is an old discussion whether different kind of mushrooms (as well as different strains) have different effects</span>, it is actually not proven in double blind test, that people could distinguish between them. The scientific evidence is still missing. In spite of that quite a few people swear to feel differences. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by: Dimitri |

Stupid question about psilocine
I did my reasearch and it still isn`t clear to me what is the difference between the effects of use pure extracted psilocine vs pure extracted psilocybin. I understand the whole transforming process, that`s not what I want to know. I want to know, if someone was to extract the substance from mushrooms to make crystals or powder (I know nothing about extraction YET, but I think it is fair to say that my question is not about extraction itself, unless... oh well), 1) Would you have the option to either have a final product as psilocybin extract OR psilocine extract and 2) If yes, what would be the difference between the 2 in yield and effect?
Sorry if that`s a dumb question, the lack of information points me to thinking that PROs just stop at the psilocybin level and lets his body do the rest (knowing of course that if don`t extract, you should find a mixture of both substances in the mushroom)... but still, I just assuming this for now... Thanks in advance |

Re: Stupid question about psilocine
An simple solvent extraction will yield psilocin, psilocybin and probably various other tryptamines such as baeocystin and norbaeocystin. To end up with a pure crystalline substance, one would either need to perform a synthesis or employ far some presumably advanced isolation techniques.
There is no difference in effects between psilocin and psilocybin, as psilocybin is thought to merely be a prodrug which is dephosphorylated to psilocin following ingestion. |
