Effects - Mushrooms and Memory Flashbacks

So SWIM hasent done anything hard only weed and stuff. SWIM heard that sometimes while on shrooms/lsd you may experience flashbacks of when you were younger or earlier events that happened in your life. Anyone witness this or heard of this? I would like to try them if there is a chance I could trip like that.

SWIM has had a lot of experience with psychoactive plants and chemicals and he has never experienced flashbacks, although almost every time he did shrooms he was able to remember things from his childhood or younger life he has forgotten a long time ago. The memories were quite vivid and overwhelming at times.

Shrooms and LSD don't seem like the sorta drugs that would do that to you in SWIM's experience. Any sort of "flashback" would probably just be examining something the way you did as a child and noticing it. The idea of actually entering one of your own memories and having it fill up your world sure sounds trippy, but also like an unsubstantiated rumor.

SWIM has done vast amounts of mushrooms and LSD among other things and never experienced a flashback.

Flashbacks from LSD, Magic Mushrooms or other hallucinogens are not like childhood memories or other memory flashbacks... in the instance of drug use, flashbacks are a recurrence of the effects of the drug that can be experienced by users of the drug(s) well after they have ceased drug use altogether. I believe that the chemical compounds of these drugs are stored in spinal and cerebral fluid and have fairly long half-lives. Stress, either physical or emotional can cause small amounts of these stored chemicals to be released into your system resulting in a "trip" like experience even when one has not come into contact with the associated drug in many years.

I have been clean from all drugs and alcohol since 1999 and just experienced a flashback three days ago. It's rather disconcerting and somewhat inconvenient when you're not expecting it.

I never known what it was to have a flashback, per the way I understand them to be defined. I how ever believe in long term damage, tha may show signs of a " flashback" unless they have somehow stored in fatty cells large amounts of un matablized drug. they breaking loose at a later time and enter blood stream, crossing the blood brain barier.

So, I stand corrected. I did a little research after I wrote my first post and found that the biological-chemical retention of LSD is indeed questionable. I found this in an article on the topic called "LSD- Origins and Neurobiology" by Michael Fichman...

In a flashback, an individual returns unexpectedly to the mental state of an acid trip. Whether there are residual LSD molecules involved in a flashback, it is unclear, but a flashback, with its deviation from an individual's perceived reality, provides an excellent juxtaposition between the individual's normative consciousness and the consciousness generated by LSD. The flashback concept also introduces the idea of an LSD placebo of sorts. A brain can generate an LSD-like consciousness state without the aid of the drug itself, showing an ability to redirect the processing of neuron impulses in ways usually thought to be automated.

The point being that the term "flashback" refers to a state of mind similar to the drug's high and not to a memory or a "flashing back" to a previous time.
