weird reaction to oxycodone
When swim took a small dose of oxycodone to test the waters (5mg) instead of the relaxing opiate euphoria other swimmers talk about he experienced slight stimulation, his heart seemed to beat a bit faster and the experience was slightly uncomfortable. He is wondering if he needs to up the dosage to experience the true effects or should he just stay away from oxycodone

Re: weird reaction to oxycodone
well based on some evidence that SWIM has seen, there is a possiblity that oxycontin, the large dose, extended release of OC in the USA, is counterfitted fairly regularly, containing a host of things that are NOT oxycodone. That said, OC tends to produce some what of a stimulating "rush" as some decribe it, so its quite possible that it was legit. please elaborate on the experience

Re: weird reaction to oxycodone
I would guess this could be a possible panic attack on your part. Dont over think it, 5mg wont kill you hell i dont think you will even get high. The effects your talking about seem psychological, next time swim should calm down and remember that this drug is used all the time for pain management and if you were to be prescribed it swim would be given at least 10-15 mg for a first dose. SWIM knows this from personal experiecne as he was started on 15mg oxy.

Re: weird reaction to oxycodone
SWIM was prescribed Oxycodone (percs) for shingles and agrees it was not relaxing, it made swim wired and a bit anxious. So Swim asked his DR for a solution and Dr downgraded swims pain pills to Hydrocodone (Vicodin). Voila! Swim found out that he is one of those people (appears to be in the vast minority) that actually prefers Hydro over Oxy and actually has no use for oxy at all. Swim would walk right past a bottle of oxy to pick up a bottle of hydro.
Swiy may be a member of that fraternity. |

Re: weird reaction to oxycodone
SWIM agrees with the above posts that SWIY may have been anxious after taking it, which could have caused the elevated pulse etc... 5 mg is by no means a dangerous dose. SWIM would try moving up to between 10 and 20. That still isn't a dangerous dose, so don't worry about anything after taking it, and it should give the effects that SWIY is looking for. So bump up to 10 to 20 mg, and keep us updated on how that treats SWIY.

Re: weird reaction to oxycodone
An update:
SWIM took 15mg of oxycodone today and in about 20-30 minutes a warm feeling of contentness developed over him. He enjoyed himself and thanks the swimmers for the advice, but he has another question. He is trying to avoid opiate addiction and tolerance and wonder if this plan can work and if any swimmers have suggestions are advice. - He plans to do it bi-weekly so twice a month - He is also having his friend hold his stash for him so he has limited access to his own oxycodone, no temptation to take them at random times. |

Re: weird reaction to oxycodone
riaahacker,
Small doses of oxycodone have been demonstrated to act indirectly to generate dopamine release in the ventral tegmental area (VTA) in the midbrain - at low doses, the most commonly favored µ-opioid effects wont be as strong as the stimulation likely experienced by the smaller releases of dopamine in the VTA. Here is a link to an article supporting that the rewarding effect of opioids is likely mediated by dopaminergic activity in the ventral tegmentum: http://www.springerlink.com/content/...e/fulltext.pdf Glad to see that the larger dose elicited desired effects! Sure, the plan might indeed work for your chimp. However, he's likely going to want the stash back at some point. Twice a month shouldn't induce too significant of a tolerance, but might indeed induce cravings. Some individuals are much better at mitigating these cravings than others, and don't have any problem using such compounds on the suggested basis; best wishes to your chimp, opioids can be both wonderful and malignant compounds - completely benign so long as all of one's attention doesn't become diverted. Exercise helps my chimps tremendously. Last edited by Gradient; 08-05-2009 at 09:08. |
