Re: Pregnant Briton 'faces execution' for 1.5 lbs of heroin in Laos
There's a bit of a question mark over how she got pregnant whilst in apparently all female custody, isn't there? It appears she was raped by a prison guard...that's what the Amnesty International website seems to think, and I'm inclined to agree.
A very lucky lady to get to serve the remainder of her time in the UK, that's all I can say. However imperfect it is, I'd still say that the British Justice System is a whole lot preferable to the Laotian one. H |

She wasn't 'raped' she was impregnated by a british man on purpose.
The fact she said she was raped in the first place is disgusting |

Re: Pregnant Briton 'faces execution' for 1.5 lbs of heroin in Laos
Regardless of the reliability of the details of this story, this woman must have known the laws concerning the penalties for drug smuggling. Yes they are draconian considering the offense, but to assume they don't apply to you simply because of your nationality, is arrogant.
Using a child (if she wasn't raped) as a "get out of jail free" card is perhaps understandable, but still wrong. How do you explain to a child that they were just a means to get there drug trafficking mum outta prison. |

Quote:
I know sympathy wont change the drug laws (which is the root cause of such problems) but maybe sympathy for these people can help remind us that the war on drugs is actaully just a war on people and freedom , because when fighting this apparently insurmountable prohibition propaganda machine its easy for a swimmer to feel they are on the wrong side of a losing battle. Keeping in mind that humans are the casualties of this war might be the one motivation that makes a difference in the long run. |
