Opinions - I need your advice please

My dog still havent switched to alprazolam from alcohol on the doctors advice. He drinks way to much at night self medication upto 12 units, he wants to quit but its his only releif from major anxiety, his doctor says the alprazolam will be way safer under his supervision so he can get off the alcohol road. His problem is when he thinks he will go for the pills its later on in the day to make sure the alcohol is out the system first but waiting that late he says tommorrow because he wants the alcohol to get the releif.He is by no means an alcoholic in his opinion he only does it for releif and really wants to stop and switch to a safer product (please no lecture about pills not being the answer he doesnt need that, its been carefully calculated by the doc) The only time he feels like taking the pill is when he wakes up in the morning, but doesnt want too because of any alcohol that may be in the system, if his liver is working at 1 unit an hour he guesses at 9.00am he will still have a couple of units still in him and is fearful to mix. His doctor says it will be ok, but he wonders if it will be he dont want to ruin the start and have a bad experience and go back to alcohol, what are your opinions on not drinking for around 10 hours then taking half a .25 alprazolam tablet will he get any negative reactions? Once he starts the tablets he will continue taking as per the doctors instructions.
