Sister got a dirty tetanus shot

Happened a few days ago. She got a shot at a drug store (didn't want to miss work) and came down with an infection (staph?) They had her in the hospital 2 days, on IV antibiotics, to which she (thankfully) responded... Oh, and she's developing an abcess, too.

I told her to get Hep, HIV, endocarditis checks when she gets better. The reason why (which I decided not to share w/ her right now) is that I'm somewhat skeptical her symptoms came from lack of an alcohol swab on her arm...I'd think this more likely non-sterile syringe or tetanus solution...

Any opinions re: how to proceed from more knowledgeable SWIMs? Incidentally, I'm reasonably certain the "bad tetanus shot" can be taken at face vaule (i.e. I doubt she was shooting opiates...though I did tease her about it a bit..."Tell us what really happened!").

Swimmy isn't. Her kitten has seen TONS of issues/infections from IV's or injection administered pre-hospitally or even in the hospital due to provider laziness and no or improper cleaning technique.

Entirely all too common.

If Swimmy had wiki rights, she'd right an article on proper site cleaning techniques. Many, many providers are guilty of cleaning improperly. People not trained are even more apt to not do it correctly.

Swim dont know the situation in swiny Homeplace,
but normally the Charge of Tetanus must be documented.
Try to find out everything was proper with this tiny bottle or phial!

hmmm. places like that simply dont forget to use swabs, and they most certainly have them handy. unless its a third world country drug store.

But it sound much more like a real Shock,
for a normal infection no Hospital will kepp you inside!

A Shock mostly happend with dirty Vaccine,
and if one is dirty also other ones will be dirty!
This is one of the reason that they have "Charge-numbers"!

And if they are dirty swiny have a legal claim and get compensation!

One can clean improperly and still get an infection even after using an alcohol swab. Swimmy has seen it happen with her own two eyes many, many times. And she's seen providers use improper cleaning techniques even more times....many, many times. She always makes them start over when they do this and "she's" on the patient-end for a change.

However, Swimmy has never heard about tetanus shots being provided at drug stores. Flu shot clinics, yes. But those are hosted by hospital/pre-hospital workers usually.
