driving on a suspended license

(USA)tho it doesn't have much to do with drugs:

SWIM's license was suspended for not paying a speeding ticket earlier today (after the 3 month grace period). He has his friend drive him around, but was wondering if the cops could still pull them over on just that fact alone.

I know a cop can make up anything he wants to get you on the side of the road, but assuming cops are generally good and reasonable people (I know.. a silly and blatantly false assumption but...), how often do you think he'll get pulled over.

SWIM carries halucinagens with him constantly and is afraid if he is arrested, his car will be searched and it found, and doesn't want to use a car that is going to have alot of unnessesary heat.

Re: driving on a suspended license

Back in the day SWIM used to get into A LOT of trouble in a small town - mostly just driving related stuff. SWIM used to drive on suspended and yes SWIM would get pulled over just on that fact alone. Several of the cops were over-zeolous being a small town and all, and most of them knew of SWIM and SWIM's vehicle and the fact that SWIM'd be a pretty sure bet at any given time of netting a couple charges and supplying revenue for the town.

Some would make up a reason for pulling SWIM over, some just did it knowing full well that SWIM was doing something wrong. SWIM eventually racked up at least 9 driving on suspended charges and a bajillion other charges, but that's another story.

SWIM thinks it depends on where SWIY lives, type of car SWIY drives, the cop to citizen ratio in the area SWIY lives, how known SWIY is to the cops in SWIY's area, etc.

Bottom line, if SWIY is holding, don't even chance it. If SWIY gets pulled over just for a normal-type thing... tail light out or whatever, than SWIY will probably not be searched. Something like driving on suspended is way more likely to have a search involved.

Be careful.

Re: driving on a suspended license

RE: License

Cops have a right to check your ID in any situation where they can lawfully stop you. If you get pulled over for anything you will be fucked and there's nothing you can do about it.

RE: Drugs

If you are carrying, ALWAYS go at least a couple miles below the speed limit. Come to a full, long-ass stop at stop lights. Don't have shit hanging off your rear view mirror. Follow the traffic laws to a T.

And, as always, DON'T consent to a search.

As long as you do those things, the DA will throw it out most of the time, and you will win in court anyways even if they don't. Traffic violations are not grounds for search and seizure without probable cause.

BUT

If they can arrest you they can search most of your car, and if they impound your car they can search the whole thing at the station. So you are best to just not drive around really (especially not with drugs).

On many occasions, SWIM was arrested. Not sure about the laws elsewhere, but in SWIM's state it is a jailable offense... maybe not the 1st or 2nd SWIM honestly can't remember, but SWIM knows that at some point he was going straight to jail for this. They would search the car every time.

Small town, usually they'd just park SWIM's car on the side of the road.

If SWIY is gonna drive, just don't have anything incriminating and as suggested above make sure SWIY's driving and vehicle are completely ship/shape.

Re: driving on a suspended license

absolutely don't do it. Pay the ticket, get the license re-instated. I lost a whole summer because of how long it took to get my speeding ticket payment processed. The payment took so long that my license got suspended. And then later that day I got pulled over for running a YELLLOW LIGHT since it was 4th of july in a small town. They weren't even going to give me a ticket but since my license was suspended as of that day, I had to get picked up by my parents. I was on my way to pick up festival tickets for the summer >_< such a hassle. Just do whatever is necessary to get the license back. There are wayy too many things a cop can pull you over for if he feels like and you are automatically required to procure your license registration and insurance. If you don't have any of those three things it's very stupid to ever drive a vehicle because you can't get out of those sort of citations.

Re: driving on a suspended license

swim always reads in the police log that gets printed in the newspaper........so and so arrested for driving with a suspended licence....
Swim almost believes they get a updated list everyday and search these folks out for lack of anything more productive to do,so far as improving the safety and improving the community.
But swim guesses thats all part of the job......

Re: driving on a suspended license

DONT carry anything illegal if you have a suspended license!!!!! SWIM was arrested years ago after a traffic stop, and literally every single male they went to court with the next day had been arrested for driving on a suspended license. Most likely your plates are now on the police "hot list", and regardless- shit happens. You could get hit by another car, stopped for a minor infraction etc- and you most likely will be arrested on the spot. If theres not another licensed driver in the car it would be impounded.

always minimize your risk. don't be stupid.

Re: driving on a suspended license

Swim was in a bad accident with no liscense and had a loadfull of shit stashed in his car.Valiums-15 weed 1/2 ounce methamphetamine 1 gram and a couple sets or werks.though not much, they were mine. The police were so worried about getting swim on a DWI charge they didn't even tear my wheels apart. If they did swim wouldv'e been up the creek. So make sure you are legal when driving,as it might save you lots of cash in the end.Remeber local police stick to gether like glue, why do you think the have same haircuts -can't tell one from the other.
