Mirtazapine as a booster for Paroxetine/Seroxat

SWIM's doc has suggested him starting a course of Mirtazapine in order to augment his Paroxetine treatment. Does this sound like a plausible use for this particular drug. Can it increase the efficacy of other anti-depressants.
Most SWIMMERS with experience of this drug seem to mention things which SWIM would really like to avoid, as he has trouble with them already. Things like weight gain, hypersomnolence, lack of motivation and interest in things, having the munchies before falling asleep etc.
Is there any chance that this drug will actually improve SWIM's mood, and overall ability to derive pleasure from life, or will it just cause him problems with the side-effects he mentions.
He would also be using it as a replacement for 15mg Zopiclone. He assumes it would not feel like taking a sleeping tablet (which he has some psychological addiction to). Would he notice any real effects after having taken it?
