Pharmacology - New here, question about Vivitrol injection...

Hello all, SWIM was addicted to heroin and sought out help for said addiction.

SWIM has been receiving the Vivitrol IM injection since November, and its done wonders! Any medication that blocks the effects of opiates this well should be given to anyone who desires to escape that whirlpool that is heroin addiction...


My question is how long does the blocking effects of opiates last? SWIM asks this because he is going to be undergoing oral surgery and SWIM's support team has decided that he WILL accept the script, but will hand over complete to control to SWIM's father who will give out the medication as needed.

So in order to have any theraputic effect from the opiate meds SWIM will have to go off the shot, and in order to schedule the surgery SWIM wants to know when a good time (i.e. 4 weeks post-Vivitrol) would be in order for these medications to work effictively...
