Post Withdrawal Aggression? Muscle gain?
SWIM just wanted to compare experiences and see if there is a similarity between the things SWIM noticed after withdrawal and what others have seen or experienced - or if this is just a result of other factors. SWIM knows a lot about being on drugs, almost nothing about what happens right after getting off them, or even how to stay off them.
Anyways, SWIM has always been very "cool" - that is, always extremely lucid and never really losing control. SWIM never had anger problems or anything like that. At rehab SWIM noticed 2 things after coming off H: 1) He gained about 30 lbs of lean muscle over the next 6 weeks. 2) He got extremely aggressive. In regards to the first one, SWIM used to weight lift about 4-5 days a week average for about 4 years straight before he got on heroin and let it all go. SWIM doesn't know if that might have just been "muscle memory," because he was working out 4 days a week at the rehab place while he was there (but it's still an unusual amount of gain SWIM thinks). But the second one was extremely strange to SWIM. At one point at rehab SWIM completely lost control and beat the shit out of this other guest who was talking shit to him, and only regained control (fortunately) from the gurgling noise the guy was making. It wasn't like blacking out, but SWIM was not at all in control. SWIM has been in a number of fights before, but never completely lost control like this. It really bothered SWIM, and fortunately the guy was too scared to tell on him or he would have got kicked out. SWIM was apparently very aggressive and "scary" to the people there a number of times, although he didn't really see himself as such. SWIM heard, but does not know if it is true, that heroin lowers testosterone levels. SWIM's demeanor and a lot of other factors while he was on heroin make this extremely easy for SWIM to believe. SWIM was wondering if there is such a thing as a testosterone spike or something like that for men when coming off heroin, or if these were just random factors. Anyone know about or heard about something similar? |

AW: Post Withdrawal Aggression? Muscle gain?
Quote:
this is very common, no difference between the Gender. Do swiny use stereoid? How swiny Skin is look alike? Ad-Syndrom? There are also some Theory`s that People with a low Hormone are much more easy to get caught by the Habit of a Opioid-Addiction! Edito: maybe this is interesting for swiny: http://www.drugabuse.gov/Nida_Notes/...N1/Stress.html Last edited by Spucky; 24-04-2009 at 11:11. |

Re: Post Withdrawal Aggression? Muscle gain?
SWIM is not sure if H lowers T Levels but realize that when one is in a situation one does not want to be in one may freak out. Whether it's because SWIY is stuck somewhere you don't want to be or not on something you want to be on. All things to consider for the reason for one's added aggression. SWIM knows that when SWIM isn't getting her way she can get very edgy.
By the way...does SWIY eat more when SWIY isn't on H? This could be the main reason for the massive muscle gain. |

Re: Post Withdrawal Aggression? Muscle gain?
Heroin most certainly lowers testosterone and methadone does too
Here: http://jcem.endojournals.org/cgi/content/full/90/1/203 So it is quite right to assume that when opiates have left the system a spike in testosterone will occur. This is why many wank almost non stop ![]() This could cause anger if too much testosterone was in SWIY system. This should level out again after time though |

Re: Post Withdrawal Aggression? Muscle gain?
SWIM feels that use of H or other opioids caused suppression of Testosterone. He believes that he first noticed this present itself in a drastic reduction of his sex drive while he was thoroughly physically addicted. Shortly after kicking a heavy, long term habit, while still in rehab, he regained his libido and also began making good use of the weight room there. As more time was placed between SWIM and the opioids, he continued to experience rapid muscle gains and further increase in his libido, as well as more acne, specifically across his back and shoulders, and a pronounced increase in aggresive behavior. After awhile, this apparent rebound of testosterone (SWIM says rebound because he feels it was sufficiently suppressed by the opioids as to produce a rebound) leveled out. A few months later, while still abstinent from opioids, SWIM began his first ever cycle of anabolic steroids, using 300mg of testosterone enanthate IM every 6 days for about 3 months. This produced effects so strikingly similar to what his body went through immeadiately after kicking (Muscle gains, appetite increase, libido increase, acne on back, aggresion), though obviously more pronounced, that he is pretty much forced to conclude, based predominantly on his own experience, that, at least in males, kicking a physical addiction to opioids produces a noticable increase in testosterone, which he feels is responsible for these effects.
