Some facts?

I would like to tell my mom that I smoke marijuana. We can talk about
anything, and we've debated on the subjects of drinking and smoking
[pot]. I know there are several facts misunderstood about marijuana.
Just in case she doesn't approve, or argues about its dangers; i'de
like to have some very good back up support to defend myself. What
facts on marijuana are commonly misunderstood? I just want to be able
to tell her different and back up my talk. Thanks.

There are the real unbaised facts about cannabis. Tell her that it's not worse than smoking or drinking. It doesn' cause brain damage, and it does not impair your memory. Those are the biggest things they worry about, i think. That it'll make you stupid.

I agree NORML should most definatly have commercials. I highly
doubt uncle sam would allow that though. And even if they found a
way to get it on the air, there would be VERY VERY few networks willing
to do it. I mean think about the atention they would get from the
average "weed is bad" joe. Only station i could ever see it on is
comedy central, its the only station ive seen a comercial for that was
pro weed, (that marijuana logues(sp) with those 3 stoned
comedians).

you'd have to get a channel that wants to be "anti establishment" and would do it to get attention on purpose.

MTV UK had a whole night dedicated to promoting cannabis last year. I think the UK is the most progressive country in the world at the moment in terms of decriminalisation (apart from the obvious countries). I bet it will be legalised there within the next decade. Pity our backwards government won't allow it though. We copy the UK for every other political policy but I can see them putting the foot down on this one.

cannabis to grade b for grade c. decriminilasation will not be coming
any time soon in the uk. its a shame all our politicians have had a
chance to try it but they dont want anyone else to.

i doubt US mtv would, ex: they are extreamly restrictive on what music
vids they play, no shooting, no drug use, but then again they show damn
near nudity. Im sure they would, but they also comply with the
gov. to an extent.

You know better than me so I guess you're right. If the hope of the UK die, then there's absolutely no hope for us. Do you know that they even have the legalisation of prostitution higher on their agenda here than they do of the legalisation of cannabis? Unbelievable.

Just when there's a great stride made towards freedom, some asshole always has to pull back the ship with some shitty statistics about the chance that one in every fifty million people get schizophrenia or some bullshit like that from smoking. People have gotten ACTUALLY gotten schizophrenia through alcohol but you don't hear about that.

When you think about it, we live in the worst generation ever to be people who smoke. Mankind has existed for over 1.5m years (in some form) and it is only in the last hundred or so that we have been restricted from something people have been using for over 10,000 years. If you do the math, you'll find that we happen to live in a very unlucky era.

Reasons for criminalisation :
The roots of criminalisation are to be found in the racist and economic of the 30's in the United States.

First of all, the hemp plant was a concurrence for the oil&synthethic stuff industry.
Second, in the 30's most of the pot consumers whehre Hispanos and Afro-american people. The criminalisation of pot (and the whole plant) was just a way to criminlise this poor people too.
