What's the best sleep aid products to mix Kava Kava with?

SWIM has used melatonin after consuming small amounts of kava in the past, but in general SWIM thinks sleeping medicine combined with kava is a bad idea.

Kava can even make getting to sleep more difficult. If mixing with sleep aids/ meds, a very small, axiolytic dose would probably be correct.

It depends on the dosage. Too much kava can interfere with sleep but something like 1 cup taken right before bed seems to help.

Swim usually gets to sleep quite easily with kava. And being a kind of anxiety treatment, it can probably reduce insomnia for those with an anxiety disorder. Melatonin is useful as a sleep aid, you could also try other sleep aids like Valerian root.

Swiv has read somewhere...(ugh, she can't remember where!) not to mix other CNS depressants with kava due to respiratory depression POSSIBLY causing hypoxia. As for anecdotal evidence, Swiv took her normal opiates and benzos (as prescribed) while playing with kava this week and had no issue. Swiv would just say to exercise caution and err on the side of too little over the side of too much.
