College and Nootropics

SWIM is going to college soon and wants to actually be able to remember and focus material more then. SWIM lives in the US and prefers them to be legal. What would be a good set/combo of nootropics for memory enhancement, better focus, and motivation? Also, if SWIM wants to add vitamin B complex into the combination how should they go about doing it. SWIM is mostly using for daily use, studying/homework, all nighters, and pre examination. Thanks.

Re: College and Nootropics

SWIdryl should give us some more info. Does he have trouble focussing and remembering? A lot of those issues has to do with how you study. How much time you spend, how regularly you do it. Overall stress levels...

Anyways piracetam seems to be the most common nootropic for boosting concentration other racetams should work as well or even better. Usually taken with some choline source serving as an precursor to acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter which is crucial for concentrating. Choline citrate is said to be relatively effective at this task while cheap. Centrophenoxine another ACh precursor seems to be nicely synergistic with most other nootropics.

To find their ideal stack ppl experiment with several substance and tune their daily regimen. Some racetam might be a good start.
Pls explain what SWIdryl issues are and read a bit more. Come back with more specific questions.

Concerning the vit B complex. What is the point of this? SWIM is quite ignorant on this subject. SWIM knows deficiency can have rly bad effects, serious neurological damage with long term b12 deficiency for instance. But will supplementing B vitamins do anything for focus when vit b levels are sufficient?

Re: College and Nootropics

dryl,

Welcome to the forum! I'd suggest using the search engine to see what threads come up for nootropics. spacelord provided a nice overview of some of the major families of nootropics, but in case you'd like to do some of your own reading - here's a thread that focused on just this topic. The links provide plenty more sources of information.

Most individuals I know take a vitamin B complex vitamin in the middle of the day. This is primarily due to the fact that the presence of the pill in the stomach is somewhat abrasive, and causes a certain degree of nausea. Also, many individuals observe a small increase in energy, which makes the complex undesirable for night-time administration. A few friends tell me that they'd prefer to take it in the morning, but don't have the time to ingest a full enough meal to cushion the vitamin. spacelord: the general 'catch-all' reason that one would take a B complex is the fact that the different vitamins are widely involved in many enzymatic and metabolic cellular processes, both peripherally and in the central nervous system; a surplus of these co-factors results in a subjective raise in energy and elevation/relaxation of mood. They have found that lunch-time is the perfect time for a B complex (along with a secondary choline dose from alpha-GPC).

Hope this helps, and good luck with your studies!

Re: College and Nootropics

I must've read the rules wrong. I thought we had to speak in third person all the time lol.

I'll check that thread out and as for the specifics...

Right now I can't get anything productive done at all. During school, I'm like a zombie in most classes. In a few, I MIGHT be able to learn a little. After school, I have no motivation whatsoever to do homework/study. I've been sleeping at 7-7:30pm recently due to boredom and lack of motivation. I open up my books and boom I'm suddenly bored and tired. During the span of the week, I probably only spend 1.5hours studying ineffectively. Homework I either BS or get answers online/from friends. Projects and essays I wait until the night before to finish. For exams, I also wait until the last night to study, but usually do not get far. For example, I try studying for world history by reading the chapter for the first time, but end up reading a page or two within an hour or two, fall asleep, wake up a few hours before school, and read a few more paragraphs while dozing off constantly.

dryl added 2 Minutes and 4 Seconds later...

Oh, and it's not senioritis or anything like that. I do care about my grades and I do care what my 2nd semester senior grades will be. I don't skip class, but it doesn't mean i pay attention in class. I start dozing maybe 5minutes after I start my homework.

dryl added 103 Minutes and 11 Seconds later...

Oh, and for stress I'm stressed out a lot of the time. Mostly due to thoughts about school sport, grades, future debt, college, and just high expectations.

Re: College and Nootropics

The Piracetam will probably help quite a bit, but you should really work on ways to reduce your stress. That'll help a lot more, long term, than the piracetam. Although I have heard very good things about it.
