SWIM awhile ago was diagnosed with ADHD from a psychiatrist and was prescribed 10mg/day to help with the symptoms. He does not really believe he has ADHD, he just thinks he has a hard time getting into a competitive mindset. From the prespective of the college he goes to, he is lazy and extremely unmotivated. This semester he stopped going to classes because they didn't really have much to do with what he wants to do with my life, He want to become a neuropharmacologist one day. He takes computer science classes with material he already knows. On the verge of failing out of school the people around him encourage him to turn to amphetamine.
Amphetamine is a wild beast, he has only been taking it for a few days and there are things that he notices even at the low dose of only 10mg. He notices a feeling of speediness, focus, and motivation. Those are things that swim love but cannot help to feel a bit of suspicion towards them. Swim has read a lot about transhumanism and is very enthusatic about such a viewport and with that in mind most would think he would accept amphetamine with open arms but there are things he cannot help to think about. Amphetamine is a powerful psychostimulant and he has read many studies about long term use causing major changes in the dopamine system and some with the conclusion of massive neurotoxicity at high doses. He is worried that long term use will cause massive changes or even damage to his dopaminergic systems even with a low dose such as 10mg. Swim also notices a crash, a feeling of nervousness, sleepiness, and a general down mood. Swim hates this crash with a passion and dreads its return. Can this drug really be used by him with a long term positive effect on his life and at what cost? Swim enjoys his personality and doesn't really consider it pathological. To swim sometimes it feels like he needs to take this drug to fit into society and the way it flows, fast and efficient. He sometimes questions if it is worth it to take something to change his personality for the sake of a world who's pace is increasing at an enormous rate. Swim loves cannabis but only indulges from time to time, he feels like its effects on his intellectual appreciation are very helpful for putting things into prespective and sometimes seeing the beauty in things. Amphetamine almost feels the opposite, it is the capitalist age's drug of choice, effective at what it does and can increase productivity in almost anyone. Everyone around him encourages to take this but he still can't help but think if its really the life he wants. He wants to admire things and use science as an art form creating works of art through chemistry. Sorry for the long post but he wanted to get his thoughts out and wants to see if anyone has any input/experiences, it would be greatly appreciated. |

Re: Amphetamine and I
SWIM is similar, but feels much more disassociated. He has mildish ADD symptoms, but is primarily diagnosed vyvanse (lisdextroamfetamine) for depression. SWIY should mention what medication specifically he is taking when he provides dosage (IE, 10mg of methamphetamine is very different from the same dosage of dex).
SWIM Knows what you are feeling, and he feels the same way. But it him, the amphetamine stimulation, although somewhat tampering with his thinking and making him feel he is concentrating less, provides SWIM with much much much better potential TO think. He finds himself asking so many questions in his college classes, they spring forth in a torrent. SWIM loves that, he loves tapping into his curiosity to formulate ideas, it beats sitting in a stupor. He also finds, in a somewhat disgusting manner, that he can use amphetamine to help propel him as that of a placebo. "I dont really want to do homework, but hey, I've got some amphetamine going and I'll have a good time learning", In swim's experience, the amphetamine rush really dies down about after a week and it becomes a more normal stimulation, he feels like its died down from a high to more of an extension of his being. He had to taper off recently due to a new evil psichiatrist who believed SWIM was a peddler and abuser, and he uses it in moderation (until tonight, hopefully) and when he waits a few days and takes amphetamine, the rush is back. SWIM doesnt really like the rush anymore, he wants it to return to a general improvement :P If SWIY is taking dextroamphetamine in a tablet, SWIM wishes him the best of luck controlling that, when SWIM had tablets he couldnt help taking extras to get high. BUT now SWIM is on vyvanse, a dextroamphetamine with a timed and extended release and unable to be insuffilated. If SWIY is interested in something milder, calmer, and more comfortable for the psichiatrist, SWIM would recommend talking to SWIY's doc about vyvanse. Its not generic, but SWIM feels it is a calmer, more sustainable, medication. If you couldnt tell, SWIM took 70mg of vyvanse this morning (his normal dose) after a four-day hiatus, and he is manic :P If you have anything else to discuss, SWIM would love to talk about the experiences of SWIM and yourself. ** "Amphetamine is a powerful psychostimulant and he has read many studies about long term use causing major changes in the dopamine system and some with the conclusion of massive neurotoxicity at high doses. SWIM would like to mention the crash is hard, especially on tablets; hopefully homeostasis after some time will lessen this crash. Amphetamine does not damage your dopamine system, SWIM would recommend SWIY take a biopsychology class as it really helped SWIM develop his knowledge about drugs; amphetamine purely stimulates the dopamine and norepinephrine system (5-HTP somewhat lesser, but you know you feel better :P) temporarily, the mode of action for amphetamine is fascinating, but temporary. One CANNOT die from amphetamine alone, it is impossible. Although, the side effects could put one into a state where he could do harm. MDMA is speculated to cause serotonin neuron pathway death, but even that is pure speculation on whether it actulaly has any effect. Last edited by wespawloski; 23-04-2009 at 19:45. |
