Drug info - Info needed...

Hey everybody. SWIM is doing a report for her psychology class about medical marijuana for the treatment of anxiety disorders. If anybody knows of any good info on this it would be appreciated!

SWIM really doesn't think that cannabis would be good at all for anxiety disorders. He looked it up at both Above The Ignorance and NORML (both excellent resources), and found nothing on cannabis being used to treat anxiety. Not to say that it can't but he thinks that if you are writing a paper, you need reliable sources to cite; anecdotal evidence won't cut it.

He personally suffers from a few anxiety problems (socially and just over thinking and worrying about things) and he can say cannabis is really probably a bad drug to try and regulate these things with. The paranoia on cannabis tends to show up a lot more when SWIM is in a situation that would normally trigger anxiety, but it usually is worse. Much more irrational.

Now SWIM has heard that mescaline, mushrooms, DMT and LSD all do wonderful things for anxiety... but again, just anecdotal evidence... (albeit SWIM's anecdotes are among them, but hey).

Try for cannabis and glaucoma, or HIV perhaps? Maybe depression if your wanting to stay in the mental health field.

Yeah, SWIM was starting to think of researching it's use for other mental disorders because pot seems to make SWIM more anxious if anything. Thanks for your input : )

I'm tired and I can't be assed with a long post explaining it. I posted a paper on Cannabidiol and it's anti anxiety properties.

Hes right! SWIM had forgotten! Its THC thats the anxiety producer, the other cannabanoids have a bit of an anti psychotic thing going on. A documentary "Should I Smoke Dope" (some British lady, newsreporter or something) had a section on it. Anyway, she got injected with pure THC, fliped shit, had a really bad time. Then they injected her with some other cannabanoids and she had a *much* better time.

Hence why sativas are known for causing more anxiety SWIM supposes, they have more THC. So I doubt cannabis in its normal state would be good for anxiety... maybe indicas are, but I bet specific cannabanoids are very useful!
