Re: valium and agressivness?
While they don't have that effect on swim, swim has seen that same aggressiveness in others when they were taking benzos or when the benzos were wearing off.
It would start and sort of a "snappiness" and sometimes would turn into full-blown anger. The two people swim has (mainly) seen this in are brother and sister, so swim wonders if it's some type of chemical thing. The two people in question are both also BPD and have been diagnosed with bi-polar and other disorders. Also, those two people DO display aggression in their normal lives, even at times when no substances have been involved. Swim noticed certain substances made it worse. Swim is just presenting all the facts to swiy; she's not saying this is the cause for swiy. Wish swim could help more. ScorpioSunshine added 1 Minutes and 21 Seconds later... Add: Swim wanted to add that the brother and sister in question are the two she has mainly seen this behavior, but she had seen others who aren't normally aggressive act that way on benzos, too. Very curious to know what would cause this... Last edited by ScorpioSunshine; 22-04-2009 at 17:25. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |

Re: valium and agressivness?
Wow. Interesting read ...
Swim hopes someone else can chime in on this. Swim also wonders if the way ones body processes certain chemicals would have anything to do with this reaction. She's not sure what is considered normal or excessive as far as levels in the bloodstream after consuming a therapeutic dose. Swim is curious if there could be some factor in certain individuals that cause them to process the drug differently. Swim supposes this could be the case, as she understands that different substances have different effects on people, but she's interested in this because of the anger aspects. Not sure how common it is, but it's worth reading more.. Also, for swiy, perhaps trying another benzo and speaking with swiy's doctor about this. It might be something swiy's doctor has heard of, and if swiy can try a different med, perhaps swiy might have a better outcome. It could also depend on dosage. Best of luck to swiy and keep us updated. Swim has always been interested in this due to personal experience with her ex and his sister, though she's sorry this is happening to swiy. ((hugs)) No one should have to suffer with anxiety. It can really be crippling. |

Re: valium and agressivness?
SWIM often gets combative on higher doses of benzo's, especially Xanax. This actually happens to a fair amount of people. SWIM is a very laid back person, but it has gotten to the point where he no longer takes Xanax because he gets arrested for disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, or some other dumb thing when he uses them. This never used to happen at first. But once it happened the first time, it seemed to happen more and more often.

Re: valium and agressivness?
Paradoxical reactions to Benzodiazepines are well recognised
